This position is responsible for coordinating and implementing the construction and maintenance operation of multiple projects on roads with lead maintenance workers. It serves as the contact point for the public, jurisdiction representatives, and vendors for road-related issues. The role also acts in the capacity of the Road Manager during their absence and coordinates road emergency response. Key responsibilities include overseeing material ordering and purchasing, scheduling work with outside agencies, mentoring lead and maintenance workers, and serving as the primary contact for the public on road-related issues. The position ensures work conforms to blueprints, maps, plans, and County standards/specifications, and assists in the preparation of the annual Road Division budget and activity budgets for road and drainage programs. It also involves planning project schedules with the Road Manager, communicating with other governmental agencies, operating specialized equipment, and overseeing lead workers to troubleshoot and improve efficiencies. Project preparation, job estimates, bid quotes, and arranging project materials are also part of the role. The position requires using a computer for tasks such as pavement evaluation, recording shot rates, chip seal rock poundage, sign fabrication, and retro-reflectivity upgrades. In emergency situations, the role involves performing emergency functions during standby duty, including responding to snow and ice storms, high winds with downed trees, flooding, and mudslides, requiring decision-making for crew response and action plans.
