About The Position

Global Connections to Employment (GCE) is a nationwide team providing jobs for people with significant disabilities, including our war-wounded veterans. Since its establishment in 1986, GCE has helped match team members to fulfilling careers, from custodial services to facilities maintenance and food services, plus other business lines in between. Working with customers from the U.S. military, commercial business and community partners – as well as federal, state and local governments – GCE is one of the country’s largest private employers of persons with disabilities. Learn more at GCE.org. The Workforce Development Specialist (WDS) assists GCE team members with disabilities in maintaining employment, building job-related skills, and pursuing career advancement. This position evaluates each team member’s employment needs, determines appropriate support and accommodations, and delivers on-site retention services that promote performance, independence, and long-term workplace success. The WDS collaborates with team members, supervisors, and internal and/or external stakeholders to reduce employment barriers, support effective training, and help facilitate placement or transition services when team members seek employment growth opportunities.

Requirements

  • Experience in vocational rehabilitation, job placement, job coaching, counseling, or related work supporting with adults with disabilities.
  • High school diploma or equivalent and four years’ employment experience as described above.
  • OR, Associate’s degree in a related degree field from an accredited college or university and two years’ employment experience as described above.
  • OR, Bachelor’s degree in a related degree field from an accredited college or university and one year employment experience as described above.
  • OR, Master’s degree in a related degree field from an accredited college or university and six months’ experience as described above.
  • Knowledge of workforce development, disability employment, job coaching, workplace accommodations, and employment retention practices.
  • Skill in assessing individual employment needs, providing individualized training and support, communicating with diverse stakeholders, documenting services, and resolving workplace barriers.
  • Ability to build effective relationships, advocate appropriately, maintain confidentiality, exercise sound judgment, and promote team member independence, performance, and long-term employment success.
  • Must be able to pass organization screening requirements, including state and/or federal background screenings as appropriate.
