We are seeking a Workers' Compensation Claims Examiner I who is motivated, detail-oriented, and interested in developing a long-term career in claims management. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys building relationships, continuously learning, is inquisitive, enjoys a team environment and is interested in developing a career in claims. Prior claims experience is not required. We provide structured training and mentorship to support the development of core claims handling skills while maintaining high service.

Requirements

  • Strong interest in the insurance or workers' compensation field.
  • Willingness to learn and apply Alabama Workers' Compensation law through training and hands-on experience.
  • Ability to organize, analyze, and process information to support claim decisions.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Professional demeanor when communicating with claimants, employers, medical providers, insurance agents, and attorneys.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products and general comfort with technology.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior claims experience is not required.
  • Prior experience in claims, insurance, legal, medical, or customer-facing roles is helpful but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Manage workers' compensation claims from initial report through resolution.
  • Develop professional relationships with claimants, employers, attorneys, nurse case managers, medical providers and vendors.
  • Communicate professionally with claimants, employers, medical providers, and attorneys to obtain and share claim information
  • Investigate the compensability of workers' compensation claims.
  • Learn to calculate and issue indemnity and medical benefit payments accurately and timely.
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining appropriate claim reserves.
  • Coordinate with outside vendors such as nurse managers, investigators, and medical providers
  • Provide employers with status updates and claim activity information as directed.
  • Support settlement discussions and legal matters within assigned authority.
  • Maintain complete, accurate, and timely documentation in the claims management system.
  • Learn medical and legal terminology as it relates to workers' compensation claims.
