About The Position

The Workers' Compensation & Benefits Specialist supports the day-to-day administration of workers compensation claims as well as support our employee benefits, leave programs, and ADA accommodations, across our multi-site operations. Reporting to the Benefits Administrator, this role is a great fit for an HR professional who enjoys the details of compliance, genuinely cares about employee experience, and is looking to grow within a specialized HR function. This role will be based in our North Phoenix corporate office and the successful candidate will work a hybrid schedule of 3 days in office and 2 days remote.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 2--3 years of specialized experience in processing workers' compensation claims required. Leave administration experience strongly preferred
  • Working knowledge of OSHA recordkeeping requirements and WC claims processes required
  • Familiarity with FMLA, ADA, and multi-state leave laws preferred
  • HR generalist background with interest in growing into benefits and compliance specialization a plus
  • Hands-on experience with CA, TX, AZ, or CO leave or WC programs preferred
  • Certified Workers' Compensation Professional (CWCP) or Workers' Compensation Claims Professional (WCCP) preferred
  • Experience with a multi-site employer in service, retail, automotive, or similar customer-facing industry preferred
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; able to manage multiple open cases simultaneously
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with HRIS or benefits/claims tracking tools a plus
  • Clear and empathetic communicator who can explain complex topics to employees and managers in plain language
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information with discretion.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, work independently, and adapt to changing priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end WC claims across all company locations, from first report of injury (FROI) through claim closure and return to work
  • Serve as primary liaison between injured employees, site supervisors, insurance carriers/TPA, and medical providers
  • Lead return-to-work and modified duty coordination in partnership with site managers, ensuring appropriate transitional assignments and compliance with medical restrictions.
  • Support the interactive process for accommodation requests; gathering documentation, coordinating with supervisors, and tracking outcomes & ensure decisions are documented, consistent and legally defensible across all locations
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations related to workers' compensation, leave programs, and accommodations
  • Track open claims, lost time, and return-to-work milestones; report trends to the Benefits Administrator and HR leadership
  • Understand and apply state-specific WC rules for AZ, TX, CA, and CO; including TX non-subscriber requirements CA's complex claim-handling timelines
  • Maintain OSHA 300/300A recordkeeping and support annual posting requirements
  • Stay current on legislative and regulatory changes in WC and leave law across all operating states
  • Prepare periodic reports on claim costs, open cases, leave utilization, and accommodation activity for HR and operations leadership
  • Assist the Benefits Administrator with enrollment, changes, and employee communications for health, dental, vision, life, and ancillary benefit plans
  • Serve as a frontline resource for employee benefit questions, escalating complex issues to the Benefits Administrator as appropriate
  • Support open enrollment processes including data entry, employee outreach, and coordination with carriers
  • Help maintain accurate benefits records in the HRIS and reconcile carrier invoices
  • Support the administration of FMLA and applicable state leave programs across AZ, TX, CA, and CO; issuing notices, tracking usage, and managing return-to-work timelines
  • Coordinate concurrent leave running (e.g., FMLA + CA CFRA, CO FAMLI + FMLA) and maintain accurate documentation
  • Partner with site managers, Benefits Administrator and HR on leave approvals, extensions, and employee communications
  • Stay current on leave law updates in all operating states; flag compliance risks to the Benefits Administrator
