The Federal Work Study Program provides jobs for Black Hawk College students who demonstrate financial need. Eligible students typically work between 6 and 15 hours per week. To qualify, students must receive financial aid, be approved for Work Study by Financial Aid and Human Resources, be currently enrolled at BHC in at least 6 credit hours per semester, and have a cumulative 2.0 GPA under the Academic Progress Policy. Students who do not meet these eligibility requirements may be eligible for non-Work Study positions, subject to budget limitations and funding availability. Duties vary by department or area. Work Study and student-worker positions may be available in areas such as the bookstore, accounting, the Aquatic Center, Campus Services, Career Services, Facilities, Financial Aid, the Fitness Center, Human Resources, IT, Marketing and Public Relations, science labs, and student services. Example duties include clerical and office work, using a computer and Microsoft Office software, customer service, answering phones, making copies, and cleaning work or assigned areas. A department supervisor or hiring manager reviews applications and contacts applicants selected for an interview. Those hired must complete an online employment application, a background check, and required paperwork with Human Resources within three days of hire. Applicants should specify their work availability, areas of interest, and career goals in their application materials. Work Study/Student Worker employees are paid the applicable Illinois minimum wage: $11.00 per hour effective January 1, 2021, increasing to $12.00 per hour effective January 1, 2022. Black Hawk College does not sponsor employment visas.
