Requirements

  • Currently enrolled at Clarkson College.
  • Qualified for the federal work study program.
  • Ability to handle confidential information.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and Word.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Effective organization and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Must be able to travel to and complete work hours on-site at Pinewood Elementary School.
  • Must exhibit a desire to work with children by supporting the classroom teacher in providing a nurturing and effective learning environment for young students.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently in a team environment.
  • Must be reliable and punctual and committed to fulfilling scheduled hours.
  • Must exhibit a desire to work with children and help them develop their reading and literacy skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to motivate and inspire students.
  • Flexibility to adapt to the needs of the program and its participants.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and ability to provide personal transportation to off-site locations.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working with elementary school students in a tutoring, mentoring, or teaching capacity.
  • Familiarity with educational technology and resources for teaching reading.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting the Financial Aid department with general office support duties, including greeting students, answering basic financial aid questions, filing, and data entry.
  • Providing academic support and mentorship to elementary-aged students at Pinewood Elementary School, assisting with reading and math comprehension, fluency, and literacy skills.
  • Working closely with school principals, teachers, and after-school program directors to create a nurturing and supportive learning environment.
  • Providing tutoring for reading to elementary-aged students at local federal, state, or public agencies, focusing on comprehension, fluency, and literacy skills.
  • Organizing and stocking linens, Sharps containers, and gloves at the Interprofessional Learning Center (IPLC).
  • Providing support during set-up/clean-up for faculty simulations and skills at the IPLC.
  • Assisting with manikin and equipment cleaning, running manikins for simulations, and software support/updates for computers at the IPLC.
  • Supporting the IPLC Administrator with clerical projects, including record keeping, updating bulletin boards, and laminating.
  • Assisting the Registrar's Office with filing projects, graduation duties, and organizing supplies.
  • Supporting various Clarkson College departments with reception duties, guest check-in, answering multi-line phones, answering questions, data entry, and filing.
  • Organizing grocery deliveries, stocking food items, sorting/stocking clothing donations, and tracking inventory for the Food Pantry.
  • Providing occasional clean-up assistance for the Food Pantry.
