About The Position

Work study student employees represent Mayo Clinic and work cooperatively with all Mayo Clinic staff, external clients, students, and advisors. The student will report to and receive direction from an assigned department supervisor. This employment provides students interested in a healthcare career and who view Mayo Clinic as an employer of choice an opportunity to explore the culture, gain field experience, and pursue career goals. Within the Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology (DLMP), students may assist laboratory personnel in aliquoting, preparing, and centrifuging biological specimens, performing various clerical tasks, and other laboratory duties such as maintaining supply inventory, filing, stocking, cleaning, or special projects. Program participation may lead to future career development opportunities. Work study employees are responsible for indicating changes in their financial aid award to their assigned supervisor and the work study liaison. The work study employee schedule will be arranged collaboratively between the employee and supervisor, complying with the financial aid award amount and minimum hours per week (10 hours) requirements. Work locations may be in the Hilton Building in downtown Rochester, or at the Superior Drive Support Center in NW Rochester. Students will need transportation to the work site. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship, and Mayo Clinic does not participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program.

Requirements

  • Graduated from high school or obtained a GED.
  • Currently enrolled at the University of Minnesota - Rochester (UMR).
  • Granted a financial work study award of $2,700 for the academic year.

  • Ability to be attentive to details and adhere to strict safety requirements for handling chemicals, reagents, and infectious agents.
  • Computer or keyboarding experience.

Responsibilities
