The work is hands-on and physical, involving climbing, working suspended in a harness, and conducting rescue drills alongside students. Instructors should expect approximately 12 weeks of overnight travel per year (the posting marks this estimate “[12, CONFIRM]”). Instructors climb a 30- to 40-foot training tower about 20 times per day while wearing 10 to 15 pounds of gear, work suspended in a harness during rescue drills, and lift and carry equipment weighing up to 20 pounds. This pace may continue for four to five consecutive days and for several weeks in a row, indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures and weather.
