About The Position

The Art Foundation Program Woodshop Technician Assistant oversees all operations in the student woodshop when the Woodshop Technician is not working. This includes introductory woodshop equipment safety and operations training sessions, demonstrating to students the proper use of the equipment in order for them to achieve the desired results for assignments, monitoring the use of hand-held tools, monitoring students’ safe use of the Woodshop’s power machinery that can only be operated by students who are supervised by trained staff, and special projects for the Art Foundation Program as requested by the Art Foundation administration. Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.

Requirements

  • BFA or equivalent professional, training and education.
  • Professional experience in Art & Design.
  • Extensive woodshop experience required.
  • Experience with woodworking, machinery and woodshop safety required.

Nice To Haves

  • MFA preferred.
  • Teaching experience preferred.
