About The Position

The Gorman Group, a leader in forest products, is seeking a Woodlands Operations Supervisor for its Gorman Woodlands North division. This role, based in Canoe (near Salmon Arm, BC), will primarily focus on road construction and harvesting operations, with regular travel to the Revelstoke area to support Canoe Forest Products Ltd. (CFP) and Downie Timber Ltd. (DTL). This position is ideal for an early-career professional aiming for a long-term career in woodlands operations or for someone transitioning from a field or planning role into operations supervision. Supported by an experienced team and mentors, the role offers opportunities for growth in contractor supervision, planning, and operational leadership. Experienced candidates with relevant operations experience will also be considered.

Requirements

  • Forestry degree, diploma, or a related field.
  • Registered or working toward FPBC designation (FIT, ASFIT, RFT, or RPF).
  • 1–5 years of experience in forestry or a related field.
  • Strong interest in road construction and harvesting operations.
  • Desire to grow into contractor supervision and operational planning.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Practical, field-oriented mindset with a strong commitment to safety.

Responsibilities

  • Provide safety leadership for road construction and harvesting activities.
  • Support and progressively assume responsibility for contractor supervision, including road construction and maintenance, and harvesting and log hauling.
  • Assist with planning and execution of road and harvest programs across CFP and DTL.
  • Monitor project progress, productivity, and costs, with guidance from senior staff.
  • Support cutblock and road layout, inspections, and operational readiness.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
  • Build strong working relationships with contractors, indigenous communities, government agencies, and stakeholders.
  • Contribute to forest stewardship, certification, and operational excellence.
  • Gain exposure to and supervision of log dump crane scales, logging camp operations, and marine operations (towing and barging) as experience develops.
