About The Position

This position is for an NCAA Division I Coaching Assistant in the sport of Women’s Lacrosse. This position will include assisting the Head Coach with recruiting and the awarding of athletics scholarships, as appropriate. It will also include supporting coaching staff during skill-development activities, practices, and conditioning sessions; carrying out assigned activities and established practice plans; and assisting with the daily administrative operations of the Women's Lacrosse program. The Coaching Assistant will be evaluated on the extent to which they provide each student-athlete with a positive, meaningful educational experience through athletics under the direction of the Head Coach.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher).
  • One (1) year of full-time coaching and/or playing experience at the college level in the sport of lacrosse.
  • In lieu of college-level coaching experience, a combination of two (2) years of coaching experience at the high school, college, professional, or national team level and playing experience at the college, professional, or national team level in the sport of lacrosse may be considered.
  • Knowledge of, and adherence to, NCAA rules and regulations pertaining to recruiting, eligibility, and general operation of the Lacrosse Program.
  • Ability to pass the NCAA Recruiting Exam on an annual basis.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in administrative responsibilities in the sport of lacrosse (e.g., team scheduling, budget preparation & administration, facility usage, public relations, fundraising, community service, and other daily operations for the program).
  • Previous experience with a Division I Athletic Program.
  • Understanding of NCAA Compliance Rules (played a Division I, II, or III sport, coached in collegiate athletics, or as a staff member in a collegiate athletic program).
  • Prior experience with recruiting.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in identifying student-athletes capable of competing both academically and athletically at Stony Brook University.
  • Play a role in the subsequent active recruitment of identified student athletes and, in conjunction with the Head Coach, assist with the awarding of athletic scholarships subject to approval by the Head Coach.
  • Identify prospective student-athletes through research, attending assigned local and national events, initiating correspondence and maintaining relationships with coaches and prospects in accordance with the direction of the Head Coach.
  • Manage a database of prospects and maintain records of contacts, to remain in compliance with NCAA, conference, and university regulations.
  • Support the Head Coach with teaching all basic and advanced skills required in the sport of Lacrosse.
  • Provide support during year-round during individual skill sessions, team practices, and conditioning sessions under the direction of the Head Coach.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of sound, safe practice plans that successfully prepare student-athletes with the fundamentals of the specific sport.
  • Assist the Head Coach with game-preparation activities for each scheduled contest throughout the season under the direction of the Head Coach.
  • Break down game footage and assist with the preparation of scouting reports for review and use by the Head Coach.
  • Assist with the organization and coordination of a wide variety of administrative tasks as assigned by the head coach, which include, but are not limited to, team travel, contest scheduling, budget preparation & administration, facility usage, public relations, marketing, fundraising, community service, and other daily operations for the program.
  • Work collaboratively with various support services in the Department of Athletics and campus constituents (i.e., Compliance Office, Financial Aid, Admissions, & Registrar) in carrying out these tasks under direction from the Head Coach and Athletics administration.
  • Support the academic success of the student-athlete and assist with academic problems under the direction of the Head Coach.
  • Provide guidance/counseling, and support (as necessary), supervise and monitor study halls (as assigned), check class attendance, and organize weekly and monthly (one-on-one) academic meetings with each student-athlete with the Head Coach and Assistant Coaches to track their progress by semester, major, and degree requirements.
  • Communicate academic concerns to the Head Coach.
  • Knowledge of, and adherence to, NCAA rules and regulations pertaining to recruiting, eligibility, and general operation of the Lacrosse Program under the direction of the Head Coach.
  • Pass the NCAA Recruiting Exam on an annual basis to be eligible to recruit off-campus.
  • Perform other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.

Benefits

  • $4,000 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.
