About The Position

Bentley School is seeking a Women’s Junior Varsity Volleyball Head Coach for the Upper School campus in Lafayette for the Fall 2026 season. Bentley School, established in 1920, is a K-12 coeducational, independent day school located on two campuses in Oakland and Lafayette. Requirements

Previous coaching experience at the high school and/or college level.
Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
Desire to become part of the larger school athletic community.
Must be able to work collaboratively as a team member.
Must be self-directed.
Time commitment - must be available for practices and games during weekday afternoons, evenings, holiday breaks and weekends.
Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States.
Willing to undergo Livescan background check and TB screening as part of the hiring process.
Employment is also contingent upon successful completion of background checks and compliance with California SB 848, which requires prior educational institution employers to disclose credible complaints, substantiated investigations, or discipline involving egregious misconduct.

Experience playing volleyball at the college level or above.

Responsibilities

Work directly with the varsity head coach to develop the growth of the volleyball program.
Serve as lead in overall planning and execution of the JV volleyball.
Work to develop and implement game strategies.
Lead in planning and organizing of team practice sessions.
Ability to coach team members individually and in groups.
Develop and implement a team strength & conditioning program.
Monitor and maintain the discipline and conduct of student-athletes to support the culture of the school and athletic program.
Manage & lead a coaching staff that includes assistant coaches.
Adhere to all state, section, conference & league rules and regulations/policies.
Build a positive relationship with all members of the Bentley School community, including students, faculty/staff, administration, parents and alumni.
Be a mentor, both in tennis and in life.
