About The Position

Collège Boréal is seeking a passionate and dynamic Head Coach to lead the women’s volleyball team in a competitive varsity setting. Reporting to the Manager, Athletics, the Head Coach provides leadership for the team and supports program development and student athlete performance, while fostering a positive and inclusive student experience aligned with the College’s values. The Head Coach is responsible for the technical, tactical, and personal development of student athletes and ensures compliance with institutional and sports regulations, including those of the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) and the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).

Requirements

  • Excellent knowledge of varsity volleyball rules and OCAA regulations
  • Valid CPR and First Aid certification
  • Ability to communicate in French and English, both orally and in writing
  • Certified Development Coach
  • Commitment to obtain the Certified Performance Coach qualification no later than three years after hire
  • Minimum two years of experience as part of a coaching team in a high-performance setting
  • Proven coaching experience and results as a Head Coach or Assistant Coach at a competitive level
  • Availability and flexibility (afternoons, evenings, and weekends) to lead practices, games, tournaments, and evaluation camps, at home and away
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure, exercise sound judgment and diplomacy, and collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders (student athletes, colleagues, health professionals, leadership, etc.)
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills; team spirit; organizational skills; and a demonstrated ability to motivate and coach student athletes
  • Ability to perform certain physical tasks related to setting up athletic equipment (nets, training equipment, etc.)
  • Willingness to contribute to a collaborative workplace focused on athletic excellence and the overall development of student athletes

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of modern and advanced volleyball coaching methods (considered an asset)

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, select, and retain eligible student athletes, including participating in recruitment activities, tryouts, and promotional events
  • Plan, organize, and lead training sessions, tryout camps, and competitions, ensuring the safety, well-being, and development of student athletes
  • Develop and implement performance-focused training plans and game strategies that support long-term athlete development
  • Represent the College at home and away games, within the sports community, and at institutional and community events
  • Foster an inclusive, respectful, and equitable environment that values diversity, mental health, and overall well-being
  • Lead, support, and supervise coaching staff, promoting a culture of collaboration and excellence
  • Represent the College at local and out-of-town recruitment activities, promoting a positive image of the team through exemplary conduct
  • Ensure effective communication with student athletes, College staff, officials, and partners
  • Complete required administrative tasks, including athlete evaluations, nominations, reports, and participation in OCAA and CCAA meetings
  • Maintain and develop professional skills through ongoing training and participation in professional development activities
  • Lead the women’s volleyball program in compliance with the policies and regulations of the College, the OCAA, and the CCAA
  • Collaborate actively with assistant coaches, other members of the coaching staff, and the athletics department to ensure program consistency, performance, and achievement of objectives
  • Observe, assess, and identify opportunities for improvement to support goal attainment and the continuous improvement of the varsity volleyball program
