About The Position

The OB Intake RN Supervisor provides clinical leadership, nursing supervision, and comprehensive prenatal intake services for Women’s Health patients. This position serves as the primary RN resource for obstetric patient intake, risk identification, care coordination, and nursing team oversight. The role combines direct patient care, prenatal education, chart review, and nursing leadership responsibilities to support safe, efficient, and high-quality obstetric care. The OB Intake RN Supervisor is responsible for conducting comprehensive prenatal intake assessments, reviewing outside medical records, identifying high-risk conditions, ensuring accurate documentation within the electronic medical record, and coordinating care with providers. Additionally, this position supervises clinical staff, supports clinic operations, oversees quality initiatives, and promotes excellence in patient care and regulatory compliance. This position includes both supervisory responsibilities and direct clinical care.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Associate Degree in Nursing required.
  • Current Texas Registered Nurse license in good standing.
  • Current BLS certification required.
  • Minimum three years of obstetric, women's health, labor and delivery, maternal-child, or prenatal nursing experience preferred.
  • Minimum one year of leadership, charge nurse, supervisory, or management experience preferred.
  • Experience with electronic health records and prenatal documentation required.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive RN prenatal intake appointments for all newly pregnant patients scheduled for Welcome OB visits.
  • Obtain and document detailed medical, surgical, obstetrical, gynecological, social, and family histories.
  • Complete medication reconciliation and identify potential teratogenic medications requiring provider review.
  • Assess psychosocial, behavioral health, substance use, and social determinants of health needs.
  • Identify high-risk pregnancy factors and escalate concerns to providers appropriately.
  • Educate patients regarding prenatal care expectations, routine testing, warning signs, and available resources.
  • Ensure all required prenatal documentation is completed prior to the initial provider visit.
  • Review outside medical records for transfer OB patients.
  • Abstract and enter pertinent medical information into the electronic health record, including: Problem lists, Prior pregnancy outcomes, Prenatal laboratory results, Ultrasound findings, Significant medical diagnoses, Medication histories.
  • Coordinate the acquisition of missing records and documentation.
  • Collaborate with providers regarding abnormal findings and high-risk conditions.
  • Assist with referrals to Maternal-Fetal Medicine and specialty services as indicated.
  • Ensure complete and accurate documentation supporting prenatal care services.
  • Support billing opportunities associated with RN prenatal intake visits when applicable.
  • Maintain compliance with documentation, coding, and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist the Chief Nursing Officer and Nursing Leadership Team with departmental oversight and initiatives.
  • Supervise CMA, LVN, and RN staff within the Women’s Health clinic, ensuring clinical competency and adherence to policies.
  • Collaborate closely with the Practice Manager and Director of Women’s Health to support clinic operations and staffing needs.
  • Schedule daily nursing coverage and assignments.
  • Participate in interviewing, selecting, onboarding, and orienting nursing personnel.
  • Conduct quarterly chart audits.
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, and a positive work culture.
  • Provide direct nursing care as needed, including working the floor and supporting clinical procedures.
  • Assume responsibility for emergent patient care until a clinician arrives, implementing emergency protocols as necessary.
  • Assist with triage, patient education, procedures, and clinical workflows.
  • Support management of EPIC in-baskets, MyChart messages, referrals, prior authorizations, and prescription refill processes.
  • Order medical supplies and ensure inventory availability for clinic operations.
  • Support management of medical equipment, including reporting issues, tracking maintenance dates, and notifying the CNO of new equipment additions.
  • Maintain current knowledge of updated vaccine guidelines and ensure staff competence.
  • Oversee department and site QA activities, including assigning monthly QA tasks and holding staff accountable.
  • Maintain compliance with OSHA, CMS, and state/federal regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with competency validation, education, and annual skills assessments.
  • Assist with patient grievances, documentation follow-up, and resolution processes.
  • Contribute topics and present at monthly staff meetings.
  • Work closely with the Practice Manager and Director of Women’s Health to ensure smooth clinic operations, appropriate staffing, and efficient patient flow.
  • Promote clear communication across departments to support integrated care.
  • Provide nursing support across Women’s Health clinics as needed.
  • Maintain flexible scheduling, including occasional evenings or weekends.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the CNO.
