About The Position

The Assistant Women's Basketball Coach is responsible, along with the head coach, to help student-athletes experience spiritual development within the context of collegiate athletics. In addition, key duties consist of teaching and skill development, academic monitoring, assisting practice, team travel, player recruitment, primary programs maintenance, and scouting. The ideal candidate must be able to work in a detail-oriented and highly-structured work environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Positive attitude and ability to work effectively with a variety of personalities.
  • Ability to effectively motivate and supervise student-athletes using a traditional, evangelical Christian approach, and willingly support the CCU athletic department.
  • Demonstrated initiative and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to all rules and regulations pertaining to the basketball program as established by the NCAA, Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC), and CCU.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, detail-orientation, and organizational skills.
  • Strong technology skills, particularly in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Committed follower of Jesus Christ, who believes there is no salvation apart from faith in his atonement on the cross, by grace alone becoming "born again" thus beginning a personal relationship with Christ, the Son of God.
  • Able to effectively communicate personal faith and apply biblical principles and convictions in the workplace.
  • Must have a strong sense of calling to the ministry of Colorado Christian University.
  • Regularly attend and be engaged in meaningful involvement in a Bible-believing evangelical local church.
  • Knowledgeable about the Word of God and passionate about Christian education.
  • Must be a traditional evangelical Christian whose lifestyle is in consonance with sound Christian principles, is compatible with CCU’s Statement of Faith, and is in agreement with the Strategic Priorities promulgated by the University.

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of one to five years coaching experience at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) level is preferred.
  • Accomplishments in developing basketball skills and bringing out the potential in student-athletes – both in the classroom and on the court.

Responsibilities

  • Fostering Christ-centered community and spiritual development among student-athletes.
  • Investing in the team’s ability to succeed in their individual academic goals.
  • Providing opportunities for the team to engage with the world through meaningful service.
  • Developing student-athletes in their spiritual walk with Christ by setting a positive example, leading devotions, and developing other programs to engage student athletes in thoughtful servant leadership.
  • Mentoring players, aiding student athletes with attaining career goals, and organizing team activities.
  • Assisting student-athletes with their academic success, including helping with class schedules, collaborating with the Life Directions Center, monitoring academic progress, communicating with professors, and following up with student-athletes.
  • Teaching techniques to develop skills that will improve individual athletes and the team as a whole.
  • Assessing opportunities for improvement through observation of practices and games and providing feedback and coaching to improve individual and team success.
  • Identifying student-athletes for review by head coach who fit CCU’s model of Christ centered athletics.
  • Compiling and maintaining records and needed information about all prospects, including all transcripts, clearinghouse forms, test scores, game schedules, and game film.
  • Coordinating communications and organizing home visits, campus visits, and on-campus meetings for prospective student-athletes.
  • Gathering all travel information including times, dates, costs and other information as needed.
  • Securing travel arrangements and providing trip itinerary to team including room assignments, practice times, curfews, meetings, etc.
  • Establishing study hall while on the road.
  • Coordinating with the transportation coordinator to set up vans or buses for local games, reserve vans for all departures and arrivals, and assigning drivers.
  • Organizing team logistics and coordinating details, including overseeing team equipment and needed supplies, working with others to arrange for team travel, managing tournament logistics, and coordination with the CCU Athletic Training Department.
  • Responsible for game day management and determining game strategy in collaboration with the head coach.
  • Scouting preparation and communication with team.
  • Managing statistics and other analytics to assist with preparation before and/or during games.
  • Assisting head coach with promoting and executing team events.
  • Promoting the head coach’s philosophy and implementing the head coach’s system of athlete development.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
