About The Position

Munich Re, a leading global reinsurer with over 40,000 employees worldwide, is seeking participants for its Women in Tech Program - Global IT Co-op for Fall 2026 in Toronto. This co-op placement offers students the chance to apply their classroom and technical training within an organization that is heavily investing in IT. Participants will be coached by experienced professionals, exposed to leadership, contribute to meaningful work, and be mentored to develop into future IT leaders. The program emphasizes diversity, inclusion, and belonging, fostering a culture that values different thoughts and opinions. The co-op placements are designed to provide practical experience in IT, with potential assignments in departments such as IT Solution Delivery, IT Data & Digital, and IT Enterprise Architecture. The specific placement will be determined closer to the term start date based on student interest, skill set, and business needs. Munich Re operates under a hybrid working model, requiring 2-3 days in the office per week, with the remaining days worked from home. Students are expected to relocate to Toronto for the duration of the co-op to fully benefit from program integration, networking, and cultural immersion.

Requirements

  • Must identify as a woman to be eligible for participation in the Women in Tech Program.
  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technology-focused field.
  • Must be in good academic standing
  • Basic understanding of networking (OSI layer), especially application layer protocols
  • Understanding of computer architecture and low-level machine code concepts
  • Ability creating simple programs to automate tasks using high-level programming languages as well as scripts
  • Excellent communication skills – spoken & written, formal/informal presentation
  • Demonstrated ability to create and manage positive professional relationships with good client service acumen
  • Proven capability to multi-task and successfully self-manage multiple priorities and projects of various significance
  • Exhibits solid organizational skills and rigorous attention to detail/accuracy in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrates leadership qualities – clear-thinking, curiosity, integrity, and drive
  • Proficient in Office 365 tools

Responsibilities

  • Supporting AI projects (Machine Learning and GenAI) by actively collaborating with project teams
  • Assisting in the development efforts for building secure AI-enabled applications
  • Build integration with LLM’s leveraging strong programming skills (python)
  • Build data pipelines leveraging python programming and Databricks
  • Assisting in performing analysis of data to derive behaviors and patterns
  • Support the analysis of current technology solutions and help maintain architecture repositories and inventories
  • Assist the team with maintaining, testing, and enhancing internal applications and AI-powered tools to support global users
  • Collaborate with architects and technology teams to gather information about applications, systems, and data flows
  • Help create architecture artifacts including presentations, reports, and other project documentation
  • Support activities related to application portfolio management and technology lifecycle tracking
  • Assist with reviewing and organizing architecture standards, guidelines, and best practices
  • Gain exposure to enterprise-scale technology platforms, cloud services, data analytics, and AI initiatives across Munich Re
  • Designing and analyzing reports and dashboards to meet departmental needs and requirements
  • Supporting or leading small-scale strategic projects as requested
  • Assisting senior team members in global co-ordination activities including formalizing agreed actions and key decisions
  • Assisting with global financial planning activities
  • Assisting in development efforts regarding IT projects, requirements, or business needs
  • Assisting with various global team standardization efforts and setting up of associated processes
