Requirements

  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Certification in Mental Health First Aid, First Aid and CPR, Naloxone Training.
  • At least one year of related experience is a minimum requirement for this role.
  • An alternative level or combination of education and experience may be acceptable.
  • Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to offer care in a respectful manner, to assess and report changes in physical and emotional well-being.
  • Adaptability to change and frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment and take the initiative.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to follow detailed instructions accurately.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.

  • Provide a vulnerable sector check that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army at its sole discretion.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in and monitor client activities and well-being, offering emotional, moral, and practical support, while ensuring safety through regular status checks.
  • Help clients acclimate to their new environment, facilitates participation in 12-step and Step-Work programs, and models principles of recovery.
  • Administer prescribed medications and support follow-up on client wellness concerns, including mental health check-ins and urinalysis as required.
  • Accurately maintain client records, documentation of all client interactions and shift check-ins, and reports behavioral concerns to the Treatment Program team as required.
  • Uphold client confidentiality as per FOIP legislation and ensures clients are aware of their rights, including the grievance process.
  • Collaborate with volunteers to support client engagement in recreational or therapeutic activities.
  • Provide orientation for new clients, reinforce program rules, and ensure clients remain within designated areas of the facility.
  • May participate in seasonal client/program activities.
  • Maintain respectful and ethical relationships with clients, colleagues, in accordance with The Salvation Army policies and professional standards.
  • Represent the organization in a respectful and professional manner, reflecting the mission and values of The Salvation Army.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
