About The Position

The Wirer is a highly visible front-line position working with a production team of Wirers. This role will require quick decision making, assertiveness, great communication, and organization to meet production expectations and customer needs. Each Wirer is accountable for producing defect-free product within specifications. This position is located at the manufacturing plant of Hitachi Global Air Power in Michigan City, Indiana, and reports to the area Supervisor.

Requirements

  • High school education or equivalent.
  • Must have the basic reading skills necessary to perform the functions of the job.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems.
  • Basic understanding of electricity and motor control systems.
  • Capable of reading and understanding bills of material (BOM), piping and instrumentation (P&I) drawings, wiring diagrams (WD), and Work Instructions (WCI).
  • Must be involved in 6S activities, value stream mapping, TPM, and collection of QCPC data.
  • Lifting up to 35 lbs. Lifting over 35 lbs. requires a lifting device, crane/hoist, or assistance by another associate.
  • Possible shock from high pot testing.
  • Must understand and comply with the 5 Cardinal Rules.
  • Participate in EHS quarterly audits, if required.
  • Required to wear the proper PPE equipment for the work area.
  • Required to attend scheduled toolbox and safety meetings.
  • Must immediately report injuries or unsafe conditions to the supervisor.

Nice To Haves

  • Complete P&I, WD, and Blueprint training.
  • Complete basic computer training.

Responsibilities

  • Wire product models to P&I, assembly drawings, WD drawings, and Work Instructions.
  • Install heat trace per P&I, WD, and Work Instructions.
  • Utilize SAP, QMS, and Operator Portal for daily activities.
  • Pass utility wiring qualifying exam.
  • Pass lockout-tagout training and be comfortable working on high-voltage (575V) machines.
  • Progression to wire all standard products model, at least (4) station built model families, and in-house starter boxes.
  • Systematically troubleshoot electrical failures and assist in determining solutions.
  • Notify Supervisor, Quality, and/or Engineering of BOM or part quality issues.
  • Follow non-conformance part procedure.
  • Flex between production lines and starter box wiring based upon production demands.
