About The Position

The Wirer is a highly visible front-line position working with a production team of Wirers. This role will require quick decision making, assertiveness, great communication, and organization to meet production expectations and customer needs. Each Wirer is accountable for producing defect-free product within specifications. This position is located at the manufacturing plant of Hitachi Global Air Power in Michigan City, Indiana, and reports to the area Supervisor.

Requirements

High school education or equivalent.
Must have the basic reading skills necessary to perform the functions of the job.
Basic computer skills.
Ability to troubleshoot problems.
Basic understanding of electricity and motor control systems.
Capable of reading and understanding bills of material (BOM), piping and instrumentation (P&I) drawings, wiring diagrams (WD), and Work Instructions (WCI).
Must be involved in 6S activities, value stream mapping, TPM, and collection of QCPC data.
Lifting up to 35 lbs. Lifting over 35 lbs. requires a lifting device, crane/hoist, or assistance by another associate.
Possible shock from high pot testing.
Must understand and comply with the 5 Cardinal Rules.
Participate in EHS quarterly audits, if required.
Required to wear the proper PPE equipment for the work area.
Required to attend scheduled toolbox and safety meetings.
Must immediately report injuries or unsafe conditions to the supervisor.

Complete P&I, WD, and Blueprint training.
Complete basic computer training.

Responsibilities

Wire product models to P&I, assembly drawings, WD drawings, and Work Instructions.
Install heat trace per P&I, WD, and Work Instructions.
Utilize SAP, QMS, and Operator Portal for daily activities.
Pass utility wiring qualifying exam.
Pass lockout-tagout training and be comfortable working on high-voltage (575V) machines.
Progression to wire all standard products model, at least (4) station built model families, and in-house starter boxes.
Systematically troubleshoot electrical failures and assist in determining solutions.
Notify Supervisor, Quality, and/or Engineering of BOM or part quality issues.
Follow non-conformance part procedure.
Flex between production lines and starter box wiring based upon production demands.
