About The Position

As a member of Apple’s Wireless team, the Wireless Silicon Validation Engineer helps test next-generation Wireless SoCs throughout the development cycle, from silicon to products. The role involves working with a team of software and hardware engineers across areas including cellular modems, connectivity solutions, device drivers, CPUs and caching, kernel programming, and embedded systems, and supporting an advanced lab. The engineer works closely with designers and architects to understand functional blocks and their use cases. They write, debug, and integrate tests for wireless chipsets, digital interfaces, power management subsystems, and wireless end-to-end usage stress tests. They push functional blocks to their limits, debug issues found during testing, collaborate with other groups to bring tests into pre-silicon environments, and work with hardware design engineers to investigate silicon issues. They also architect and test frameworks that scale to test racks and large-scale testing, and support product development builds locally and remotely.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Strong programming skills in C/C++.
  • Experience with embedded software.
  • Experience with hardware/software interaction.
  • Familiarity with computer, system, or SoC architecture.
  • Experience with, or interest in, writing code to test I/O devices and/or functional units.

Nice To Haves

  • Assembly language programming skills.
  • Familiarity with bench debug equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and DMMs.
  • Knowledge of digital logic fundamentals, including timing analysis, state-machine debugging, and/or RTL/test-bench development experience.
  • Basic Wi-Fi or Bluetooth protocol knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Work with designers and architects to understand functional blocks and their use cases.
  • Write, debug, and integrate tests for integrated wireless chipsets, complex digital interfaces, power management subsystems, and wireless end-to-end usage stress tests.
  • Push functional blocks to their limits and debug issues surfaced during testing.
  • Collaborate with other groups and organizations to bring tests into pre-silicon environments.
  • Work with hardware design engineers to debug silicon issues exposed during testing.
  • Architect and test frameworks that scale to test racks and large-scale testing.
  • Support product development builds locally and remotely.
