About The Position

Scott Electric is seeking an experienced, hands-on Wire Operations Manager to lead and manage all wire room operations. This position is responsible for the safe, accurate, efficient, and profitable processing of wire and cable orders while maintaining a high level of inventory accuracy and customer service throughout the entire company. The ideal candidate is a strong leader who understands warehouse operations, takes ownership of results, holds employees accountable, and is comfortable working in a fast-paced wholesale electrical distribution environment.

Requirements

  • Previous warehouse supervisory or management experience required.
  • Experience in electrical distribution and wire and cable cutting is a must.
  • Experience operating or supervising the operation of wire-cutting and material-handling equipment.
  • Strong understanding of warehouse inventory control and cycle-counting procedures.
  • Strong leadership and employee-management skills.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple orders and responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to travel at least 25% of schedule.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to order accuracy.
  • Basic computer skills and experience working with Infor Cloud Suite Distribution ERP system.
  • Ability to analyze productivity, inventory, and operational reports.
  • Ability to work in a warehouse environment around moving equipment and heavy wire reels.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to bend, reach, push, pull, and perform other physical activities associated with warehouse operations.
  • Ability to safely lift and move materials as required by the position.
  • Ability to work in varying warehouse temperatures and noise levels.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of electrical wire and cable products, gauges, conductor types, reel sizes, and wire-cutting procedures preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of all warehouse wire rooms.
  • Work with warehouse managers to ensure proper wire room procedures are being followed.
  • Schedule and prioritize wire cuts based on customer requirements, delivery schedules, and workload.
  • Ensure all wire and cable is cut accurately to customer specifications.
  • Verify proper measuring, labeling, tagging, packaging, and staging of completed wire orders.
  • Monitor daily production and ensure orders are completed accurately and on time.
  • Coordinate wire room workflow with warehouse, shipping, receiving, sales, purchasing, and operations personnel.
  • Manage large, special, and time-sensitive wire orders to ensure customer commitments are met.
  • Maintain accurate wire and cable inventory, including reel footage and material locations.
  • Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies and wire footage variances.
  • Conduct and oversee cycle counts and assist with physical inventory.
  • Monitor wire scrap, remnants, short reels, and reusable material.
  • Establish procedures to minimize scrap and maximize the value recovered from remaining wire.
  • Monitor productivity, cut accuracy, scrap percentage, and other key performance indicators.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and control operating costs.
  • Supervise, train, coach, and develop wire room employees.
  • Establish clear productivity and performance expectations.
  • Monitor employee performance and provide regular feedback.
  • Hold employees accountable for safety, accuracy, productivity, attendance, and company policies.
  • Assist with training, performance reviews, and corrective action when necessary.
  • Build a team-oriented culture focused on accountability, quality, productivity, and customer service.
  • Maintain safe, clean, and organized wire rooms.
  • Ensure employees follow all company safety policies and applicable OSHA requirements.
  • Ensure proper operation of wire cutting machines, forklifts, reel handling equipment, pallet jacks, and other material-handling equipment.
  • Coordinate preventative maintenance and repairs to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Ensure employees receive proper training before operating equipment.
  • Identify unsafe conditions and correct them immediately.
  • Evaluate wire room processes and recommend improvements to workflow, layout, equipment, staffing, and procedures.
  • Develop standardized procedures for cutting, measuring, labeling, staging, inventory control, and scrap management.
  • Use operational data to identify bottlenecks and improve throughput.
  • Work closely with management to establish and track departmental goals and performance standards.
  • Help implement technology and process improvements that increase accuracy and efficiency.
