About The Position

Worthington Armstrong Venture (WAVE), a joint venture between Worthington Industries and Armstrong World Industries, is a worldwide leader in the production of suspended ceiling systems. WAVE produces metal ceiling grids that can be combined with Armstrong ceiling boards as a complete package or sold individually. WAVE is currently looking for a Wire EDM Technician to join their team. The Wire EDM Technician is responsible for the setup, operation, and troubleshooting of wire EDM machines to produce precision components and tooling. This role requires strong attention to detail, blueprint interpretation, and the ability to maintain tight tolerances in a production or toolroom environment. This candidate should be able to operate high-precision Wire EDM equipment in a hands-on machining role where their accuracy and expertise directly impact quality and production performance. The schedule will be: Monday - Thursday 2:30 PM to 12:30 AM.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (technical training preferred)
  • 2–7 years of Wire EDM experience in a tool & die or precision machining environment
  • Strong understanding of electrical discharge machining principles
  • Strong understanding of blueprint reading and tolerancing
  • Strong understanding of precision measurement techniques
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple jobs/setups

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with CAM software (Mastercam, Esprit, etc.)
  • Knowledge of tool & die, mold, or fixture manufacturing
  • CNC machining background (milling or grinding would be a plus)
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement
  • Experience holding tight tolerances (±.0002” or better)

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate Wire EDM machines (Fanuc, Mitsubishi, Makino, or similar)
  • Read and interpret blueprints, CAD drawings, and GD&T requirements
  • Perform program edits and basic programming (G-code or CAM-generated programs)
  • Select proper materials, wire types, and cutting conditions
  • Monitor machining processes to ensure precision and surface finish requirements
  • Inspect parts using micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and CMM (if applicable)
  • Troubleshoot machine issues, wire breaks, and dimensional deviations
  • Perform routine maintenance on EDM equipment (filters, wire threading, dielectric fluid checks)
  • Maintain accurate documentation of setups, offsets, and job progress
  • Support toolroom or production teams with tight-tolerance components and tooling
