About The Position

This position is located at the Winedale Historic Complex in ROUND TOP, Texas - 80 miles east of Austin, Texas and 80 miles west of Houston, Texas. Purpose Support daily operations by maintaining and repairing facilities, grounds, and equipment at the 255‑acre Winedale site. Work under general supervision of the Winedale Site Manager, a division of the Briscoe Center for American History.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Two years facility, equipment, or grounds maintenance experience
  • Knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and carpentry to enable making minor repairs
  • Knowledge of general custodial duties
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics
  • Skill in effective verbal and written communication
  • Skill in applying worker safety programs to work situations
  • Skill in using basic computer operations and office equipment
  • Skill in providing quality customer service in a courteous and professional manner
  • Skill in performing minor repairs to vehicles and other equipment
  • Skill in the use of hand and power tools, mowers, trimmers, chain saws, tractors, vehicles, generators and other mechanical equipment
  • Ability to deliver and move furniture, equipment and materials.
  • Experience with painting, scraping, sanding, caulking, and priming of interior and exterior buildings.
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with maintaining landscaped areas by planting, cultivating, fertilizing, weeding, and watering.
  • Operate mowers and related equipment to cut grass, mulch beds, and irrigate grounds. Monitor for pests or disease and take appropriate action, including pesticide application. Assist with purchasing supplies and materials.
  • Perform construction, maintenance, and repair work on facilities, buildings, restrooms, fences, and other structures. Complete additional tasks such as painting, scraping, sanding, caulking, and priming for both interior and exterior surfaces. Move and deliver furniture, equipment, and materials as needed.
  • Assist with cleaning and housekeeping duties in historic buildings, classrooms, dormitory spaces, offices, and food service units. Change bed linens, replace towel sets, clean restrooms, and replenish restroom supplies.
  • Operate and maintain a wide range of equipment, including hand tools, power tools, mowers, tractors, and trucks. Perform preventive maintenance and conduct minor repairs on motor vehicles, grounds and garden equipment, building maintenance equipment, and related tools.
  • Assist with special programs and events by completing physical setup and cleanup tasks, including arranging tables and chairs, preparing staging areas, and collecting and removing trash from the grounds. Weekend work will be required for some events.
  • Maintain proper operation of plumbing fixtures, lighting fixtures, and smoke detectors of facilities. Replace AC filters and other items needed on regular routine. Collect and remove trash from grounds.
  • Enforce property rules, collaborate effectively with staff, support programs and events, and provide excellent customer service. Other duties as assigned.
