About The Position

The IESO is committed to ensuring Ontario’s electricity system meets the province’s needs today and into the future. This role is within the IT Operations Division in the Information and Technology Services Business Unit. The energy sector is rapidly evolving, offering exciting new opportunities for those who want to make a difference. The successful candidate will provide system support during the production life cycle of information technology systems (developed by or purchased for (IT&I) by establishing user requirements, system design, integration of commercial products, software development, enhancements, troubleshooting, preparing procedures, consulting, training and researching commercial products.

Requirements

  • Requires a knowledge of server management, Unix, Windows, infrastructure monitoring tools, computer science subjects and disciplines in order to design, develop and support small to large scale computer systems and networks.
  • Specific knowledge would include system design, networking and system administration.
  • Requires a knowledge of technical writing to prepare effective reports.
  • Requires considerable experience in the design, development and support of computer systems.
  • Experience in computer system architecture, design and integration.
  • Experience in system networking.
  • Experience in administration and use of standard or proprietary computer operating systems.
  • Experience in development of computer applications using standard development languages.
  • Experience in support of small to large scale computer systems.
  • Experience in database design and administration.

Responsibilities

  • Develop standards, participate in the development of strategic plans and provide operational and design specifications for Information and Technology Services (I&TS) managed systems.
  • Provide systems design expertise to support the development of computer based information systems/tools to meet the needs of customers by establishing user requirements, developing system designs, integrating commercial products, code software and test systems. Provide project management support to design projects/teams or information systems or tools.
  • Design, build, and operate hosting systems which includes server and network components to deliver required system functions.
  • Manage the evolution of existing hosting systems and tools by implementing enhancements to provide additional functionality, correct problems to improve reliability, maintainability, improve server management capabilities, and respond to advanced system problems or failures to restore system functionality.
  • Perform server management duties, prepare procedures and/or support personnel involved in server management activities.
  • Research commercial products and tools which can be used in the design or support of information systems and tools and perform ongoing assessments of their ability to meet current and future requirements.
  • Provide systems consulting support to operations, maintenance or software development staff.
  • Develop procedures required for the secure operation and management of information systems or tools.
  • Perform hosting attestation to ensure compliance to set standards, meeting requirements, and identification of improvement opportunities.
  • Act as a consultant or mentor to peers to advance their learning and facilitate their problem solving skills with their respective areas of expertise.
  • Perform other duties as required.
