Window Washer Technician

HHM Facility Management•Moline, IL
•$16 - $25•Onsite

About The Position

The Window Technician performs professional interior and exterior window cleaning at commercial, industrial, and institutional facilities. The role includes ground-level work, water-fed pole work, and elevated work from aerial lifts and other approved access equipment at heights up to 40 feet. When weather, wind, ice, or site conditions make exterior work unsafe or ineffective, the technician shifts to interior window cleaning and related glass work, so the shift remains productive. Weekend work is required as scheduled to meet client access windows and production schedules.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Prior commercial window cleaning, or a demonstrated ability to learn traditional and water-fed methods, required.
  • Aerial lift certification, or the ability to obtain company-provided scissor and boom lift training before unsupervised operation.
  • Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to drive a company vehicle or tow a lift trailer preferred.
  • Ability to read work orders, chemical labels, and lift manuals, and to complete simple daily logs.
  • Reliable attendance, including assigned weekend shifts.
  • Authorization to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to drive a company vehicle or tow a lift trailer.
  • Preferred IWCA, ANSI I-14, or equivalent window-cleaning safety training.
  • Experience with water-fed pole systems and pure-water filtration.
  • Experience on manufacturing, distribution, or multi-story commercial accounts.
  • OSHA-10 and current aerial-work-platform card.

Responsibilities

  • Exterior window cleaning: Clean exterior glass, frames, sills, and related metal or stone returns to a streak-free finish using approved methods: traditional squeegee, pure-water water-fed poles, and lift-access cleaning.
  • Set up, inspect, and operate scissor lifts, boom lifts, and other company-approved aerial work platforms to reach glass up to 40 feet.
  • Stage drop cloths, cones, and barricades; control water runoff; and protect landscaping, vehicles, equipment, and pedestrian paths.
  • Remove labels, tape residue, construction film, and light hard-water spotting within the agreed scope.
  • Report glass damage, failed seals, and access limits before work starts.
  • Weather contingency — interior work: When rain, high wind, lightning, ice, extreme cold, or other unsafe conditions prevent exterior work, stop exterior operations and move to interior window cleaning for the remainder of the shift.
  • Clean interior glass, partitions, sidelights, transaction windows, and accessible high interior glass from approved ladders, poles, or lifts.
  • Detail frames, tracks, sills, and blinds or shades only when included in the work order.
  • Do not move production equipment or enter restricted areas without authorization.
  • Document the weather hold, the interior work completed, and any glass left for a return visit so the supervisor can reschedule exterior work.
  • Lifts, access, and site control: Complete a pre-use inspection of every lift before operation.
  • Do not use equipment with a failed inspection, missing guardrails, or an out-of-date annual inspection.
  • Operate lifts only on firm, level surfaces within the manufacturer’s slope and load limits.
  • Use a ground spotter where required by the site or the lift manual.
  • Stay inside the platform with both feet on the floor and a harness and lanyard attached to the designated anchor point when the lift requires fall protection.
  • Coordinate with site security, production, and the account supervisor on roof access, dock access, lockout of overhead doors, and pedestrian or vehicle exclusion zones.
  • Quality, safety, and reporting: Meet the account scope and leave glass free of streaks, runs, debris, and residue.
  • Walk the work with the supervisor or client contact when requested.
  • Follow OSHA, site, and company safety rules, including fall protection, aerial-lift, ladder, chemical, and housekeeping requirements.
  • Wear required PPE: slip-resistant footwear, eye protection, gloves as needed, high-visibility vest in traffic or dock areas, and a full-body harness with lanyard on lifts that require it.
  • Use only approved cleaning chemicals. Never mix products. Label secondary containers and keep SDS access available.
  • Report incidents, near misses, property damage, and unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Complete daily work logs, lift inspection sheets, and chemical or incident forms as required.
  • Work weekends, early starts, and occasional extended shifts when client access or weather recovery requires it.
