About The Position

Southern Champion Tray (SCT) is seeking a Window Machine Operator for the 3rd shift. This role is responsible for setting up and operating machines to ensure quality products are produced at a consistent rate of speed according to machine standards. Team members are expected to act in accordance with the company's shared Core Values and Operating Principles, including being Trustworthy, Servant-Hearted, Relational, and Resourceful. The operator will also be responsible for leading a crew, troubleshooting machine malfunctions, and maintaining a clean work environment.

Requirements

  • Experience operating a window machine, preferably in a folding carton environment.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to utilize software.
  • Mechanical ability and skills.
  • Ability to read and understand documents, letters, etc. and write legibly in English.
  • Ability to understand and speak clearly, communicate, and understand directions in English as needed.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide both fractions and decimals, solve equations, read a tape measure, and have an understanding of both standard and metric measuring systems.
  • Regular attendance and reporting for work on time.
  • Availability for overtime work if necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate machine(s) to ensure quality products are achieved at a consistent rate of speed in accordance with machine standards.
  • Set up and operate machine(s) in a consistent manner as instructed and maintain standard operating procedures.
  • Make machine adjustments to maintain safety, quality, and production standards.
  • Check previous shift's report at the beginning of each shift to determine the status of the run.
  • Set up machine to precise measurements and alignments within allotted time for the next production run, assuring a straight and smooth flow through the feed section.
  • Use attachments and make adjustments to assure proper windowing and adjust the stacking section to assure the blanks are stacking uniformly.
  • Use the computer system to log productivity and remarks on the job, accurately complete production reports, and record production data.
  • Start equipment and adjust machine as required to attain target speeds.
  • Be responsible for the quality of the product manufactured.
  • Check for scrap and quality defects; continuously check for quality defects of finished product.
  • Operate the machine in a safe manner and notify supervision of any unsafe conditions.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and assist in repair of machine malfunctions; perform routine cleaning and maintenance.
  • Maintain a clean work environment including the machine, floors, desks, and fans in accordance with the 5S system.
  • Lead a crew that has been placed with them to execute the demands of the operation efficiently.
  • Respond to oral instructions from the supervisor and written instructions.
