About The Position

Deriva Energy, a Brookfield Renewable U.S. portfolio company, is seeking a Wind Technician I or II to maintain all aspects of turbines—including electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and civil systems—at the Cimarron II Wind Farm in Cimarron, Kansas. This is a full-time, permanent position with room for advancement. The position is the entry and initial training level in the series, though the hiring manager may select a candidate for Wind Technician II based on skills and experience. The role involves diagnosing and resolving turbine faults, performing troubleshooting and corrective actions, carrying out preventive maintenance and performance monitoring, and following safety and hazardous-energy-control procedures. Technicians climb and work on towers, use equipment such as forklifts and commercial motor vehicles, and complete maintenance records and other documentation in Maximo. The position requires a valid driver’s license and may involve travel to other projects. Work takes place outdoors in all weather and may expose employees to mechanical, electrical, noise, dust, chemical, or solvent hazards. Candidates must meet a safe working weight limit of 265 pounds and pass a background check and drug test before hire. Applicants must already be authorized to work for any U.S. employer; visa sponsorship is not available.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Wind Technician I: ability to complete Level I job performance measures and Deriva Energy Renewables Academy training within one year.
Wind Technician II external candidates: at least three years of related work experience and ability to pass required Turbine Technician I and Electrical Operator I job performance measures during the probationary period.
Wind Technician II internal candidates: at least one year of technical experience with Deriva Energy as a Wind Technician and completed Turbine Technician-1 and Electrical Operator-1 job performance measures.
Valid driver’s license.
Ability to climb and work on turbine towers up to 400 feet daily.
Ability to lift 75 pounds individually.
Ability to walk and climb stairs, ladders, and/or scaffolds.
Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, wind, rain, and snow.
Ability to work around mechanical, electrical, noise, dust, chemical, or solvent hazards.
Must meet the safe working weight restriction of 265 pounds.
Must pass a background check and drug test before hire.
Must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States; visa sponsorship is unavailable.
Completion of an OEM or third-party technical specialty training program.

Nice To Haves

AAS degree or certification in Wind/Renewable Energy or an applicable field of study.
Experience with Siemens 2.3 turbines.
Experience with multiple wind turbine supplier technologies.
High-voltage and substation maintenance experience.
Familiarity with mechanical and electronic testing equipment, including voltage testers, amp clamps, oscilloscopes, and hand and power tools.
Knowledge of heavy equipment for facility maintenance and working knowledge of crane and rigging requirements.
Competence with Maximo EZ Max mobile work and My Time management systems.
Microsoft Office skills, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
CPR and AED training certification.
TSL tower climber and rescue and EEM training.
Forklift certification.

Responsibilities

Maintain a high level of safety awareness.
Climb to heights of 300 feet and greater several times daily.
Diagnose and resolve turbine faults involving mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic problems.
Troubleshoot issues to identify root causes, perform corrective actions, or open a service case with the equipment manufacturer.
Perform energy isolation in accordance with Lock Out / Tag Out procedures.
Perform pad-mounted transformer switching in accordance with Hazardous Energy Controls procedures.
Perform small or large corrective tasks on wind turbines.
Perform preventive and corrective maintenance, performance monitoring, and evaluation.
Maintain turbine electrical, mechanical, civil, and other aspects safely, with high quality and efficiency.
Maintain EH&S documentation and complete work orders, timesheets, tool and PPE inventories, and other necessary paperwork in Maximo.
Operate equipment including forklifts and commercial motor vehicles.
Travel to projects as needed.
