About The Position

Deriva Energy, a portfolio company of Brookfield Renewable U.S., is a nationwide leader in sustainable energy, providing wind, solar, resilient backup power, and managed energy services to over 1,000 projects across the U.S. with a total electric capacity of more than 5,100 megawatts of non-regulated renewable energy. They are seeking a Wind Technician to be based at their Notrees Wind location near Midland, TX and Odessa, TX. This is a full-time, permanent position with significant room for advancement, serving as the entry-level training position for the series. The hiring manager may fill the position at the Wind Technician II level based on candidate skills and experience. The role involves maintaining all aspects of turbines, including electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems.

Requirements

  • Wind Technician - Level I: High School/GED
  • In addition to the High School/GED requirement, the ability to complete Level I job performance measures and training Deriva Energy renewables academy within 1 year
  • Wind Technician - Level II (External Candidates): High School/GED, (3+) years of related work experience. Must pass required Turbine Technician I and Electrical Operator I JPMs within the probationary period.
  • Wind Technician - Level II (Internal Candidates): High School/GED, (1+) year of technical experience with Deriva Energy as a Wind Technician. Must also have Turbine Technician-1 and Electrical Operator1 JPM Completed.
  • Valid Driver’s License required
  • Must pass a background check and drug test prior to hire
  • Safe Working Weight Requirement- This position contains a weight restriction of 265 pounds as an essential function of the job. The purpose of this restriction is to ensure that all weight rated equipment is used in an appropriate and safe manner within maximum allowed weight loading.

Nice To Haves

  • AAS degree or certification in Wind/Renewable Energy or applicable field of study.
  • Experience with Vestas V82 and V90 turbines
  • Experience with multiple wind turbine supplier technologies
  • High voltage and substation maintenance experience
  • Familiarity with mechanical and electronic testing equipment (i.e., voltage testers, amp clamps, oscilloscopes, and various hand and power tools)
  • Knowledge of heavy equipment for facility maintenance and working knowledge of crane and rigging requirements
  • Competent with Maximo EZ Max mobile work and My Time management systems
  • Microsoft Office Including Excel/Word/PowerPoint
  • CPR and AED Training Certification
  • TSL tower climber and rescue & EEM training
  • Forklift certified
  • Completion of OEM or third-party technical specialty training program.

Responsibilities

  • Always maintain a high level of safety awareness
  • Climb heights 300 ft. and greater several times daily
  • Diagnose and resolve faults on turbines as they relate to mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic problems
  • Perform troubleshooting to identify the root cause of an issue and perform corrective actions or open a service case with equipment manufacturer
  • Perform energy isolation in accordance with all Lock Out / Tag Out Procedures
  • Perform pad mounted Transformer switching in accordance with all Hazardous Energy Controls Procedures
  • Perform small or large corrective tasks on wind turbines
  • Perform preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, performance monitoring and evaluation
  • Maintaining all aspects (e.g., electrical, mechanical, civil, etc.) of turbines in a safe, high quality, and efficient manner
  • Maintain EH&S Documentation and complete necessary paperwork (work order, timesheet, tool and PPE inventory, and additional paperwork as necessary) within Maximo
