About The Position

Reporting to the Region Manager, the Wind Site Manager is responsible for overseeing the operations at the South Trent Wind Site. This role is accountable for the safe and compliant operation of a CEG wind farm installation. The manager will be responsible for monitoring, upkeep, and reporting of plant performance, creating an annual operating plan, and providing input on an annual budget. They will set direction and measure the operational performance of staff and site contractors, acting as the primary contact for issue resolution in performance and land utilization issues. This position also serves as the local point of contact for landowners, local authorities, and state agencies regarding environmental and contractual issues involving wind farm installations. The role involves participating in contract negotiations with subcontractors and other vendors for parts and services required for wind power installations. The manager must possess the ability to climb and troubleshoot wind turbines at a high level, perform operation and switching of high voltage equipment, and service, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair substation and collection system malfunctions. They will coordinate the efforts of on-site turbine technicians, assist in SCADA functions, and monitor various reports and performance metrics daily, weekly, and monthly. The ability to write, implement, and train direct reports on all CEG programs and procedures is essential, as is communicating site issues with support staff and responding to plant outages on a 24/7 schedule. Other duties as deemed necessary by Senior Management will also be part of this role.

Requirements

  • Able to safely handle and work with objects weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance and up to 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Able to report to the work site without transportation assistance.
  • Ability to climb towers unassisted up to 300 feet.
  • Job will require standing outside the nacelle and nosecone at the top of the turbine.
  • Able to work with electrical wires and differentiate between color coded wires.
  • Able to safely work in a wide range of adverse climates and environments.
  • Able to travel as required.
  • Able to work safely in a confined space.
  • Able to meet requirements of CEG’s Qualified Electrical Worker program.
  • In depth knowledge of NERC standards and other utility regulatory requirements, power purchase contracts, operations management, financial reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and maintain high value wind installations at or above projected performance levels and within budget.
  • Proficiency with operations financial management, forecasting and controls.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the technical and business facets of a wind installation.
  • High School diploma is required.
  • 7 years in the wind industry.
  • Possess and valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • A 4-year degree in business, engineering, or related field is preferred.
  • Technical training in wind plant operations is preferred.
  • OSHA training is preferred.
  • Proficiency in using project management software, MS Project preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Service, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair substation and collection system malfunctions.
  • Coordinate efforts of the on site turbine technicians.
  • Assist in SCADA functions such as data editing, report creation, and local SCADA problem resolutions.
  • Monitor wind conditions, SCADA reports, turbine performance, maintenance schedules and staff performance on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
  • Write, implement and train direct reports on all CEG programs and procedures.
  • Communicate site issues with all support staff (IT, Engineering Human resources, etc..) provide follow up as needed.
  • Respond to plant outages on a 24/7 schedule.
