About The Position

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) is responsible for managing and protecting the state's renewable natural resources. This position serves as the first-line supervisor for sworn enforcement personnel assigned to a District or lower level Wildlife Investigators. The role involves supervising and assisting sworn personnel engaged in the investigation and enforcement of all laws, rules, and regulations as delegated to the department and commission. This is a promotional opportunity open only to current permanent, classified employees of the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries/Enforcement Division. There are two vacancies located in Region 3 and Region 8.

Requirements

  • One year of the required experience must have been as a Wildlife Enforcement Corporal or higher rank in state service.
  • Five years of experience in wildlife conservation law enforcement.
  • Possession of an active Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.
  • Possession of a current driver's license.
  • Applicants may be required to qualify as an ex-officio notary public.
  • An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified by the hiring agency until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

Responsibilities

  • Investigates wildlife-related crimes that cross state boundaries, such as smuggling and trafficking of regulated species.
  • Supports covert operations through site surveys, administrative documentation and equipment coordination.
  • Identifies and mitigates risks associated with wildlife law enforcement operations.
  • Develops and coordinates training programs for law enforcement personnel within assigned regions.
  • Prepares detailed reports and maintains investigative documentation to meet accreditation standards.
  • Supervises the gathering of evidence, preparation of warrants, and effecting of arrests.
