About The Position

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) is responsible for managing and protecting the state's renewable natural resources, including all wildlife and aquatic life. LDWF supports a strong work ethic in its employees and incorporates the use of good science, accurate information, and technology. This incumbent will serve as the first-line supervisor for sworn enforcement personnel assigned to the Enforcement Division Covert Unit. They will supervise and assist undercover agents using asymmetric investigative techniques to intercept, disrupt, and counter criminal activity as it relates to illicit wildlife and commercial harvest, sale, and trade, and its nexus to other crimes. This is a promotional opportunity, open only to current permanent, classified employees of the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries/Enforcement Division.

Requirements

  • One year of the required experience for the following minimum qualifications must have been as a Wildlife Enforcement Corporal or higher rank in state service.
  • Five years of experience in wildlife conservation law enforcement.
  • Possession of an active Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.
  • Possession of a current driver's license.
  • Applicants may be required to qualify as an ex-officio notary public.
  • An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified by the hiring agency until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and assists undercover agents participating in short-term, preliminary observation of individuals, groups, or organizations to gather information to determine whether criminal activity is taking place, has taken place, or is about to take place.
  • Supervises the continuous or prolonged observation of a targeted individual, group, or organization by clandestine means to gather information relative to an open criminal investigation.
  • Responsible for overseeing the daily operations conducted by the Enforcement Division Covert Unit, ensuring daily objectives are met.
  • Provides guidance and coordinates all additional resource requests when required.
  • Ensures that proper protocol is followed throughout the investigative process.
