About The Position

This internship provides an opportunity to perform wildlife damage management techniques and assist Regional Wildlife Damage Specialists in Southeastern South Dakota. The intern will gain experience in methods of exclusion fences for Canada Geese, Turkeys, and deer. Additionally, the intern will learn various hazing practices, trapping for nuisance animals and Beavers, banding migratory game birds, and other wildlife damage management assignments. The role also involves learning to operate and maintain equipment and vehicles such as pick-up trucks, tractors, UTV's, kayaks, and boats with motors. Record keeping and data entry will be a key part of skill development.

Requirements

  • Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply.
  • By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program.
  • Must be a current part-time or full-time student (minimum of 6 credit hours) in the upcoming semester or in the immediately preceding semester.
