About The Position

This internship position is for the Summer session (May - August) and is located in Mitchell. The intern will assist Regional Wildlife Damage Specialists in Southeastern South Dakota by performing wildlife damage management techniques. This includes gaining experience with exclusion fences for Canada Geese, Turkeys, and deer, learning various hazing practices, trapping nuisance animals and Beavers, banding migratory game birds, and other wildlife damage management assignments. The intern will also learn to operate and maintain equipment such as pick-up trucks, tractors, UTV's, kayaks, and boats with motors, and will develop skills in record keeping and data entry.

Requirements

  • Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student (minimum of 6 credit hours) at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply.
  • By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program.

Responsibilities

  • Perform wildlife damage management techniques.

Benefits
