About The Position

This position involves planning and coordinating wildlife programs, acting as a lead worker by providing work direction and training. The role performs a variety of habitat management functions, including vegetation control, herbicide application, controlled burns, selective cuttings, plowing, disking, planting food patches, checking or building nesting structures, assisting with cover-mapping of areas, trapping, banding, and releasing wildlife for research surveys. Additionally, the position conducts hunter bag checks and collects deer age data. The coordinator monitors and/or participates in the maintenance and repair of buildings, automotive equipment, power tools, and farming implements. A key responsibility is answering public inquiries and distributing general information. The role requires obtaining and maintaining a Pesticide Applicator License within one year of hire and a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with an air brake endorsement within six months of hire to operate truck/trailer combinations.

Requirements

  • 24 mos. exp. within wildlife habitat & conservation activities to include wildlife habitat evaluation, preparation & implementation of wildlife plans, capturing, tagging & collecting data from wildlife species, assisting with wildlife research activities & operation of associated equipment
  • Valid driver's license
  • Completion of undergraduate core program in wildlife management or related field of study AND valid driver's license
  • Equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above
  • Pesticide applicator license as issued by Department of Agriculture within 1 yr. of hire
  • Must obtain & maintain commercial driver’s license to operate motorized equipment of size & type regulated by Section 4506 of Ohio Revised Code within six months of hire to remain in this classification with specific class & endorsements required pursuant to position description on file.
