About The Position

This full-time, permanent home-based (remote) position offers a hybrid work arrangement, combining remote work with occasional scheduled onsite work at our DOH facility in Tumwater, approximately 0-1 days per month. Field work throughout the state may be occasionally required and is expected to comprise less than 3% of work time. The Washington State Department of Health (DOH) works to protect and improve the health of people in Washington State. The Division of Prevention and Community Health (PCH) partners with communities and organizations across the state to improve health and reduce barriers to services. Within PCH, the Office of Nutrition Services (ONS) works to improve the lifelong nutrition and health of Washington communities through nutrition education, referrals to services, breastfeeding promotion and support, and increased access to healthy foods. ONS serves more than 200,000 participants each year through programs that promote healthy starts, healthy choices, and access to essential services. This position leads the Communication and Training Team (CTT) for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC). Reporting to the Nutrition and Client Service Section Manager, this position supervises CTT staff and provides leadership for statewide WIC training, policy implementation, communication, and participant nutrition education materials. The position plays an important role in ensuring local WIC staff have access to high-quality, participant-centered training and resources that meet state and federal requirements. The position also participates in the ONS Extended Leadership Team and works collaboratively with program leaders, local WIC agencies, and other partners to support consistent and effective WIC services across Washington.

Requirements

Six (6) or more years of experience leading or managing a health services or public health program OR Bachelor’s degree in nutrition science or other public health related programs AND Two (2) or more years of experience leading or managing a health services or public health program
Two (2) or more years working in WIC program at the local, state or federal level.
Two (2) or more years of experience leading, managing or supervising professional staff, preferably in a health-related field. Experience should include developing work plans, setting direction for work, coordinating work among team members, monitoring performance, and acting as a subject matter lead.
Two (2) or more years of experience developing service delivery training using educational methodologies, instructional design, or adult learning strategies

Master’s Degree in Nutrition or related field
Experience communicating complex technical or legal information clearly and engagingly to a diverse audience, including those with non-technical backgrounds.
Ability to address the needs of various audiences, considering cultural sensitivity, different learning styles, and accessibility requirements.
Experience in planning, creating, and editing engaging content for educational or outreach purposes—through video, writing, or multimedia—such as media communications, videography, press releases, webpages, blogs, brochures, video production and editing, or social media content.
Experience in community outreach and engagement, partnership building, and collaboration with marginalized communities, Tribal communities, and vulnerable populations and/or experience centering equity in program design and implementation

Responsibilities

Supervise and manage staff within the ONS Communication and Training Team.
Provide direction, coaching, and support to staff responsible for WIC communication, training, and program materials.
Establish priorities and coordinate team activities to support statewide WIC program needs.
Coordinate training for local WIC staff to support consistent, participant-centered service delivery.
Ensure training is accessible, relevant, and aligned with state and federal WIC requirements.
Coordinate training related to WIC policies, procedures, and program implementation.
Identify training needs and support the development and delivery of resources that strengthen staff knowledge and practice.
Coordinate the development, communication, and implementation of WIC policies and procedures.
Work with program teams and local WIC agencies to support understanding and consistent implementation of policy changes.
Translate complex program requirements into clear, practical guidance and training for WIC staff.
Coordinate the development of participant nutrition education materials and training resources.
Support nutrition education approaches that are culturally responsive, participant-centered, and consistent with WIC program requirements.
Collaborate with program staff to ensure materials effectively support healthy choices and access to nutrition services.
Participate in the ONS Extended Office Leadership Team (EOLT), Clinic Operations Team, and other ONS meetings and workgroups as assigned.
Collaborate with internal teams, local WIC agencies, and statewide partners to address training, policy, communication, and program implementation needs.
Contribute to statewide efforts that strengthen the quality, consistency, and accessibility of WIC services.
