About The Position

This position is responsible for greeting clients, managing appointments, collecting demographic information, determining eligibility for WIC benefits, and assisting with health screenings. The role also involves providing basic breastfeeding education, translating if bilingual, maintaining a tidy workstation, and performing outreach activities to support the WIC caseload. The job requires a professional attitude, effective communication, and regular attendance.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or GED.
  • Previous experience in health services or human service agencies preferred.
  • Spanish/English proficiency.
  • Computer skills.
  • Able to communicate effectively and relate to patients and co-workers in a manner which promotes harmony and productivity.
  • Professional attitude and behavior.
  • Regular and timely attendance required as outlined in the Personnel Handbook.
  • Medium physical effort: Mostly standing, light lifting of toddlers.
  • Limited local travel between GLBHC sites.

Responsibilities

  • Greets clients courteously, finds and activates their MI WIC record, determines reason for visit and schedules future appointments.
  • Collects demographic information, performs income determinations, residency and identity checks and voter registrations.
  • Answers telephones promptly, courteously and determines whether to redirect call or handle immediately.
  • Generates WIC benefits, prints shopping lists, issues EBT cards with proper instructions and assures client’s understanding of its use.
  • Responsible for the security of EBT cards and other securely kept materials.
  • Directs clients to the lab, nutritionist, dietitian or other health center staff.
  • Assists in health screenings by performing heights, weights, hemoglobin’s, and blood lead testing. Enters blood and anthropometric data into the MIWIC system and GLBHC’s electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Determines immunization status using the Michigan Care Improvement Registry (MCIR). Refers clients for immunizations when needed.
  • Maintains skills to provide basic breastfeeding education and support to all WIC women. Encourages women to breastfeed.
  • Translates, if bilingual, for non-Spanish speaking providers.
  • Maintains a neat, functioning and well stocked work station. Files Nutrition documentation forms.
  • Performs other duties as necessary to aid in maintaining WIC caseload, such as making reminder phone calls, sending reminder or missed appointment postcards, and other outreach activities.
  • Performs tasks and other duties as assigned.
