About The Position

The Holmes County General Health District is currently hiring a Part-Time WIC Intake Clerk. The primary function of this position is to maintain and monitor confidential client information. Candidates should have basic breastfeeding knowledge and be able to support and encourage pregnant and breastfeeding mothers in Holmes County. Candidates may also be required to serve as a Breastfeeding Peer Helper in addition to performing intake duties.

Requirements

  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Candidates should have a similar economic, educational, and cultural background as the WIC participants being served
  • A working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher, is required

Responsibilities

  • Carry out written and verbal instructions
  • Solve problems involving a limited number of variables within a familiar setting
  • Perform basic mathematical calculations
  • Maintain accurate documentation
  • Communicate effectively with clients and staff
  • Travel to and gain access to work sites, and lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing 20 to 50 pounds
  • Schedule individuals interested in participating in the WIC Program
  • Interview applicants and collect information to determine program eligibility
  • Issue WIC Nutrition Cards to eligible participants
  • Explain program rules and requirements in accordance with grant guidelines
  • Complete participant height, weight, and length measurements
  • Conduct screenings for lead, iron, and immunization status
  • Maintain client charts and records to ensure all required documentation is complete
  • Assist clients with completing forms
  • Follow up on telephone triage notes
  • Complete paperwork necessary to meet grant requirements
  • Perform various administrative duties, including scheduling appointments
  • Prepare and send appointment and missed appointment notices
  • Maintain referral lists
  • Make phone calls and send text reminders
  • Maintain educational materials in counseling rooms
  • Participate in breastfeeding promotion and outreach activities, including health fairs, county fairs, and other community events
  • Maintain appropriate office supplies in accordance with agency policies and procedures
  • Work occasional evenings and weekends as needed
  • Demonstrate regular and reliable attendance
  • Maintain required continuing education hours by attending breastfeeding and nutrition trainings as required by state and local WIC programs
  • Manage required training time and travel
  • Meet all job safety requirements and comply with applicable OSHA safety standards related to essential job functions
  • Perform other duties as assigned
