Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in dietetics, foods and nutrition, public health or related areas.
  • A minimum of three years’ experience in public health nutrition, clinical or outpatient dietetics required; familiarity of WIC program highly desirable.
  • Completion of a didactic program in dietetics and supervised practice program approved by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) of the American Dietetic Association.
  • Licensure in RI as an LDN required.
  • Valid CPR and First-Aid certification or willing to obtain.
  • Maintains continuing education credits or certification as appropriate.
  • Able to regularly sit, stand or walk, and occasionally reach for prolonged periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift, push, move and/or carry supplies or equipment up to 25 pounds, and occasionally be able to bend, stoop, crouch or kneel.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and oversee the daily operations of the WIC program, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Assists with program planning and implementation and serves as a resource for staff and the community.
  • Develops and maintain partnership with community organizations, healthcare providers and other stakeholders to enhance program resources and support for participants.
  • Supervise and support WIC staff, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Delivers in-service training and education for staff to enhance the program.
  • Conduct outreach activities to raise awareness about the WIC program and recruit eligible participants.
  • Determines risk eligibility of applicants based on certifying criteria established by federal, state and local regulation and policy including assessment of anthropometrics, hematological and other pertinent data.
  • Provides administrative support including reporting, grant, and budget preparation.
  • Ensures correct issuance of WIC food instruments and entry of certification data/information into information system (RIWEBS).
  • Create and deliver items in the Nutrition Education Plan.
  • Completes quarterly reports for the state with updated information from the program.
