About The Position

The WIC Clerk serves in a clerical role under general supervision of a WIC Nutrition Services Manager. The WIC Clerk screens for participant eligibility, oversees scheduling across all El Rio Health WIC clinics, promotes the WIC program to potentially eligible participants, performs clerical responsibilities, and other duties essential for the operation of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC.) The primary goal of the El Rio Health WIC Clerk is to support El Rio’s Mission of providing comprehensive, quality health care that is affordable and accessible to all who may have healthcare needs, by successfully performing the primary essential functions.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (G.E.D.)
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers.
  • Level I fingerprint clearance card: current valid and in good standing or have applied for it within seven working days after beginning employment.
  • Reliable transportation that can meet any operational reassignments of the organization during the workday.
  • If an employee is driving during work hours, the employee is required to possess a valid driver’s license and must comply with Arizona vehicle insurance requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior work or volunteer experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) with the ability to speak, read, and write in both languages.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and maintains the front desk/reception area for receiving clients, maintaining a clutter-free. professional workstation.
  • Provides excellent customer service in person and/or by telephone.
  • Demonstrates self-initiative by being aware of work environment and acts as a team player to assist coworkers and others.
  • Understands and complies with all organizational Code of Conduct standards, Policies and Procedures, and Service Excellence requirements (AIDET) at all times with all clients, visitors, and employees.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and hygienic work environment in compliance with all Policies and Procedures including but not limited to work areas, workstations, examination rooms, hand washing, infection prevention and control etc. for this position.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of and proficiency with the application of all compliance and reporting requirements respective to Joint Commission Certification (JCC) standards.
  • Maintains security and inventory of benefit supplies (Farmers market Checks and eWIC cards).
  • Maintains patient confidentiality by controlling the environment and information being disclosed to authorized individuals.
  • Determines WIC program eligibility in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations and procedures.
  • Explains program procedures, regulations, processes and timeframes to applicants and representatives, utilizing WIC Rights and Obligations.
  • Provides instructions for participants who do not comply with program procedures and regulations and supports bringing participants into compliance.
  • Conducts interviews and accurately documents information on residency, income, and family situation in a computerized participant database.
  • Schedules and re-schedules participant appointments according to allowable time limits.
  • Generates and provides a diverse set of reports as assigned or requested, by using available reporting. programs linked to organizational software databases.
  • Plans and participates in community outreach activities.
  • Attends meetings, trainings, and conferences as required.
