About The Position

Under the direct supervision of the Area Supervisor, is responsible for the supervision and management of assigned WIC clinic operations and determining WIC Program eligibility and providing Value Enhanced Nutrition Assessment to WIC applicants. Applies the Power of Influence (P.0.1.) principles when interacting with WIC participants and staff.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED.
  • One year of WIC experience.
  • State of Texas Driver's License.

  • Bilingual language skills in English/Spanish/Asian preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collects and records anthropometric, biochemical and health history data for WIC Program applicants.
  • Support and promote a culture of breastfeeding.
  • Determines program eligibility of WIC Program applicants and provides Value Enhanced Nutrition Assessment to WIC participants.
  • Audits health history questionnaire and identifies low risk factors according to program policies and procedures.
  • Provides Value Enhanced Nutrition Assessment to low risk WIC Program participants, as required by WIC Program policies and procedures.
  • Applies the Power of Influence (P.O.I.) principles when providing WIC services.
  • Issues referrals according to LA High-Risk policy and to other appropriate health and social agencies.
  • Approves the issuance of contract and non-contract formulas to WIC participants according to Program policies and procedures.
  • Teaches group nutrition education, pregnant and breastfeeding classes, as necessary.
  • Performs clerical duties in areas of eligibility, benefits, laboratory, and reception.
  • Informs WIC Participants of the benefits of breastfeeding and assists with breastfeeding concerns and/or problems.
  • Counsels pregnant and breastfeeding moms, gathers information, and answers breastfeeding questions to help them avoid common breastfeeding problems.
  • Supports women during a normal breastfeeding experience. Identify breastfeeding experiences that are not the norm and make an immediate, referral per the Staff Breastfeeding Referral Protocol.
  • Refers WIC participants to appropriate health care provider and documents follow-up.
  • Issues breastfeeding equipment (electric breast pumps, manual breast pumps) and aids (nursing pads, large flanges) according to policies.
  • Participate in nutrition and breastfeeding training/meetings.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned by supervisor.
