About The Position

The City of Waco is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable WIC Certifying Authority to join their team. This role involves providing direct client care to WIC clients, conducting interviews and assessments to determine eligibility, and creating individualized nutrition care plans. The position is on-site and grant-funded.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition or Dietetics (e.g., Nutritional Science, Community Nutrition, Clinical Nutrition, Public Health Nutrition).
  • Bachelor’s Degree in other fields may be considered with a minimum of 12 semester hours of Food and Nutrition and 6 hours of Science.
  • Licensed Vocational Nurse or Registered Nurse with an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License.
  • WIC Certified Training required within first year of hire if the degree held is not directly related to nutrition.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews applications and certifies applicants for WIC eligibility.
  • Provides counseling, education, and assessment for infants, children, and pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding women clients.
  • Performs anthropometric and biochemical measurements.
  • Provides nutrition education and outreach programs.
  • Works with the community to increase public awareness of proper nutrition.
  • Provides information, counseling, and medical case management according to specific program and physician guidelines.
  • Operates a City vehicle to travel to clinics, community sites, outreach locations, and partner agencies to provide direct client care.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
  • Maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information.
