About The Position

The City of Waco seeks a compassionate and detail-oriented Health WIC Certification Specialist to join their team. This role is crucial in empowering families by determining eligibility for the WIC program through thorough interviews and documentation collection. The specialist will perform basic physical status checks and provide assessments and education, directly impacting the health and well-being of the community. This is an on-site, grant-funded position.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED
1 year of customer service experience in a clinical or health setting
Valid Texas Driver's License
Successful completion of WIC State WCS training within 1 year of hire

Nice To Haves

Breastfeeding experience with previous and/or current experience with WIC
Successful completion of WIC State Peer training program
Some health science college coursework
Bilingual in Spanish

Responsibilities

Completes the certification of WIC applicants.
Performs tasks involving issuing, scheduling, and maintaining participant files.
Interviews residents and collects documentation to determine client's WIC program eligibility.
Performs anthropometric and biochemical measurements.
Provides nutrition assessments and education.
Maintains records.
Performs tasks involving the completion of certifications, issuance of benefits, scheduling/rescheduling, and follow-up appointments.
Provides general WIC information.
Operates a City vehicle to travel to clinics, community sites, outreach locations, and partner agencies to provide direct client care for PHD clients.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Complies with all policies and standards.
Supports the relationship between the City of Waco and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with residents, visitors, and City staff.
Maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information.
