About The Position

Airport wheelchair agents play a critical role in ensuring safe, efficient, and comfortable travel for passengers with mobility challenges. The position requires a combination of physical endurance, customer service skills, and coordination with airport staff, making it essential for maintaining a positive passenger experience throughout the airport journey.

Requirements

  • Ability to lift, push, pull, carry, squat, bend, and stand for extended periods; capable of handling weights up to 75 pounds or more.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact positively with passengers, airline staff, and the general public.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English clearly, and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Must obtain airport security clearance and comply with TSA screening requirements.
  • High school diploma or equivalent may be required.
  • Must pass drug and alcohol tests and adhere to safety regulations.
  • Must successfully complete a background investigation and a post-offer/pre-employment drug/alcohol test.
  • Must possess effective interpersonal skills with ability to deal with all levels of personnel and the general public in a professional and effective manner; must be able to use initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines.
  • Must be able to read and understand all operating and airport procedures and instructions.
  • Must be able to handle pressure of working with high volume general public (constantly to occasionally depending on assignment).
  • Must be eligible for CBP seal and pass the criminal background check to obtain the airport ID.

Responsibilities

  • Safely push or escort passengers in wheelchairs to gates, terminals, baggage claim, or other airport locations, ensuring timely arrival and comfort.
  • Provide directions, general airport information, and support during check-in, security screening, and boarding.
  • Work with dispatchers, gate agents, and airline staff to manage wheelchair-assisted passengers efficiently.
  • Maintain wheelchair logs, complete incident reports for accidents or unusual events, and ensure all wheelchairs are accounted for at the end of shifts.
  • Operate wheelchairs, jetways, and other airport equipment safely, and assist with baggage handling when required.
