About The Position

Are you passionate about protecting and restoring natural ecosystems? BETA Group, Inc is looking for a Wetland Project Scientist to join our growing New Hampshire team and play a key role in shaping environmentally responsible projects across New England. From fieldwork to permitting strategy, you will be at the forefront of meaningful, hands-on environmental work that supports a diverse portfolio of infrastructure and land development projects. In this role, you will collaborate closely with engineers, planners, and environmental professionals to deliver practical, compliant, and sustainable solutions for our clients.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Water Resources, Natural Resources, Geology, Ecology, Soils Science, or a related field
7+ years of experience in environmental consulting, wetland science, or ecological compliance
NH Certified Wetland Specialist (CWS)
Proven ability to oversee construction for compliance with the NPDES Construction General Permit and other environmental permits
Experience supporting NH DOT projects, including wetland delineation, construction monitoring and environmental permitting
Strong knowledge of federal and NH state environmental regulations
Previous experience presenting complex projects in a public setting
Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment
Strong client management abilities with a focus on fostering new business opportunities
Strong technical writing skills, including the ability to prepare clear, accurate, and formal reports
Strong leadership and organizational skills
Must be able to collect field data and measurements
Must be able to lift/move objects weighing up to 40 pounds
Must be able to perform field work in both hot and cold weather (rain and/or snow)
Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time
Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

OSHA Certification(s)
NH Certified Soil Scientist (CSS)
Wildlife Monitoring and Botanical Survey experience
5+ years of experience overseeing construction for compliance with the NPDES Construction General Permit and other environmental permits
Knowledge of MA, CT, and/or RI state environmental regulations

Responsibilities

Lead wetland delineations, functional assessments, and ecological studies for diverse infrastructure and development projects
Review and understand project construction documents and requirements, including NH DOT plans specifications
Guide permitting efforts at the local, state, and federal levels, including Section 404 Clean Water Act approvals, NHDES Dredge/Fill Permits, etc.
Maintain environmental compliance matrices and prepare detailed compliance reports
Conduct routine field visits to assess construction impacts on wetland conditions, ensuring projects comply with issued permits
Attend and present at regulatory coordination meetings to support project teams and clients
Partner with engineers, planners, and project managers to integrate environmental solutions into design
Prepare clear, high-quality technical reports and regulatory documents for clients and agencies
Contribute to team discussions and project deliverables while learning from experienced professionals
Mentor junior staff and contribute to a collaborative, high-performing team culture
