About The Position

Apex Companies is seeking a Lead Wetland Scientist to join their team, supporting projects across the Mid-Atlantic region. This role is ideal for an experienced environmental professional who can independently conduct wetland delineations, lead field teams, and contribute to technical reporting and project execution. The successful candidate will bring strong field expertise, regional plant and ecosystem knowledge, and the ability to mentor junior staff while supporting a growing natural resources practice. Requirements

  • BS in Environmental Science, Natural Resources, Biology, or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience in environmental consulting or related work
  • Strong experience conducting wetland delineations and field investigations
  • Familiarity with Mid-Atlantic plant communities and wetland ecosystems
  • Experience preparing technical reports and environmental documentation
  • Ability to lead field teams and mentor junior staff
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills
  • Experience with project coordination or management
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel for field work

Nice To Haves

  • 401-hour HAZWOPER certification preferred
  • Experience with permitting or regulatory coordination is a plus
  • Experience supporting data center or natural resources projects is a plus
  • Overnight travel may be required for field work
  • Candidates who are not located near an office may need to use their personal vehicle for field work, with mileage reimbursement provided in accordance with company policy

Responsibilities

  • Perform wetland delineations across the Mid-Atlantic region in accordance with applicable federal and state guidelines
  • Conduct field investigations independently and lead small field teams (typically 1–2 staff members)
  • Prepare and review technical reports, documentation, and proposals
  • Serve as a senior technical resource on natural resource and environmental projects
  • Assist with project management activities, including scheduling and coordination of field work
  • Mentor and train junior scientific staff and ensure high-quality work products
  • Participate in field work and office-based reporting/analysis
  • Support business development efforts and contribute to expanding client relationships
  • Travel as needed to support field efforts across the region
