We have an opening for a full-time Wellness Instructor. Wellness Instructor responsibilities include: Educating the community about whole-person wellness, with an emphasis on physical wellness, and assisting with developing and leading whole-person wellness classes related to physical wellness. Role-models whole-person wellness, coaching and educating residents and community members to achieve success in their personal wellness goals. Generates enthusiasm for fitness and wellness programs, encourages the improvement of fitness and health among community members. Ensures growth in participation and in support of the wellness and fitness classes and the whole-person wellness philosophy. Builds relationships by delivering services with compassion, professionalism, and superior customer service. Assists with researching, planning, and implementing evaluations of cognitive and functional fitness, as instructed by the Director of Community Life and Wellness. Assists with wellness assessments and other relevant data, including, but not limited to: collection, storage use, and annual updates. Assists with the design and implementation of educational seminars and classes focusing on whole-person wellness, fitness, nutrition, therapy, and sensory stimulation, consulting experts in the Lakeview community as needed.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in exercise science, exercise physiology, or another related field, required
Must have current First Aid and CPR certifications.
Must demonstrate excellent safety judgement in relation to residents’ participation in each fitness program.
Must have a full understanding and effective application of infection control procedures.
Demonstrates good communications skills, including but not limited to effective reading, writing, speaking, and analytical skills, with a fluent understanding of English.
Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks appropriately, and exercise sound judgement where procedures cannot be standardized.
Possesses an empathetic approach to the elderly.
Able to work in a team setting with residents, relatives, staff, and others.
Able to meet the physical requirements of the job: Exerts up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
Visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned or to make general observations of facilities or structures is required.
Stoops by bending spine at the waist downward and forward; kneeling on the knee to come to a rest; climbs stairs and ramps, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms; and crouching downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
Reaches hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction; pushes forward, downward or outward; and lifts objects from a lower to a higher position or move objects horizontally from position to position.
Walks to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
Fingers with whole hand or arm such as picking, pinching or typing; grasp by applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm and feel attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.
Talks to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word accurately, loudly, and/or quickly; and hears sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, and has the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication.

Nice To Haves

American Senior Fitness Certification in Long Term Care, Group, and Personal Training, preferred.
