About The Position

Under the direction of the Branch Executive Director, the Wellness Director oversees a department that includes cardiovascular and strength training equipment, group exercise studios providing premiere group exercise programs, and a versatile staff of wellness coaches, group exercise instructors, personal trainers, and massage therapists (if applicable). The Wellness Director serves as part of a team with the Association and other Branch Wellness Director(s) to design a strategic, multi-year plan for the Wellness Department, fitting with the overall fiscal and strategic plan of the organization. This strategic plan must include: Quarterly evaluation and revision of current programming, Member Retention Initiatives, Special Events planning and implementation, and New program design and implementation. The role involves active participation in teaching, training, and coaching members. The Director assists in the marketing and distribution of program information and may organize and schedule program registrations. They develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations, constantly assessing the community for needs, opportunities, and threats as they pertain to the successful development of the Wellness Department. The Director develops and monitors the program budget to meet fiscal objectives. They supervise the Health Innovations Coordinator (if applicable) and oversee the Ambassador program/wellness appointments and Health Innovations programming. Additionally, the Director oversees Wellness Staff, including hiring, training, and supervising wellness floor staff, implementing member service standards, and overseeing wellness appointments and tracking. They also oversee Group Exercise, including hiring, training, and supervising instructors, ensuring quality, variety, and consistency, and overseeing studio staging. The Director oversees Personal Training, including hiring, training, and supervising trainers, and increasing revenue. They review and evaluate staff performance, develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals, and develop staff retention initiatives. Job training and development of all new Wellness staff is the responsibility of the Wellness Director. The Director oversees Wellness events, manages payroll and Group Ex Pro for Wellness Staff, and ensures the office is clean and a welcoming professional environment, being visible on the Wellness Floor. Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Exercise Physiology, Wellness, Physical Education or related field.
  • Minimum of two years in Health & Wellness leadership.
  • Excellent knowledge and skills in the Wellness / Fitness area.
  • Experience in programming implementation.
  • Experience in leading and appeasing a large membership.
  • Ability to direct programs through supervision of volunteers and staff, development and monitoring of budgets, marketing and public relations, program development and fund-raising.
  • Successfully complete State of Florida Criminal History Background Check requirements.
  • Employment is contingent upon completing required Level 2 background screening through the Florida Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse.
  • CPR/First Aid/AED Certification required.
  • Possess a current accredited and nationally recognized certification in one or more of the following areas: Personal Training, Lifeguard, Land or Water Group Exercise, Swim Instructor or Pilates Reformer.
  • Annual Completion of YMCA Blood Borne Pathogens Training.
  • Annual Completion of YMCA Child Sexual Abuse Prevention class.

Nice To Haves

  • YMCA Team Leader or Multi-team/Branch Leader certification preferred.
  • Additional training classes as recommended by Supervisor.
