About The Position

This position supports Mercy's philosophy of patient centered care by improving self-management abilities which enhance the overall health and well-being of the patient/clients we serve. The Wellness Coach will coordinate and deliver health risk appraisals, analyze data from these appraisals and biometric testing, conduct one-on-one wellness coaching sessions for health improvement, create and conduct health education programs, and collaborate with other health experts and employer groups. The role also involves utilizing behavioral interviewing tactics, executing incentive program management for companies, evaluating program metrics specific to employer groups, and using Microsoft Office programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in health Promotion or an Allied Health Field, with course work specific to health promotion and population management required.
  • Working knowledge of principles in adult education, health education and wellness concepts required.
  • Ability to communicate well orally and in writing; via phone, email and face to face; establish rapport with clients/patients.
  • Self starter; able to initiate and direct own activities in an organized manner, and make decisions within the framework of the responsibility and authority of the job.
  • Ability to teach group classes or conduct individual consultations.
  • Ability to drive a car.
  • Must currently be credentialed in one of the below or obtain within 18 months of hire: 1) Current Coach certificate through WellCoaches or equivalent organization 2) Completion of the ICC (Iowa Chronic Care Consortium) Clinical Health Coach Training Program/Performance Evaluation
  • Must obtain Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) within the first 30 days of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Follows Mercy's safety guidelines, carries out job-specific safety duties and responsibilities, and promptly reports any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents and injuries.

  • Use of Microsoft office programs
