About The Position

The Wellness Assistant is an integral part of the Fitness and Wellness team within Bethesda. This role is responsible for leading multiple group fitness classes, ranging in variety and levels from Yoga to Water Aerobics, including counting, cueing, and organizing choreography. The Wellness Assistant will also orientate new members on equipment and perform general receptionist duties such as answering and directing phone calls, taking messages, scheduling appointments, and maintaining the tidiness of the wellness center.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate
  • Group Fitness Certified
  • AED/CPR Certified
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Well-developed typing skills
  • Word processing skills
  • Understanding of basic bookkeeping
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Publisher
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow instructions.
  • Writes clearly, legibly and with correctly.
  • Communicates in a welcoming, professional, and respectful manner.
  • Maintains a friendly and approachable attitude.
  • Exhibits patience and understanding to work with older adults.
  • Recognizes the unique needs of geriatric clients and adapts communication accordingly.
  • Shows eagerness for ongoing learning and willingly engages in team decision-making.
  • Arrives and departs work punctually, demonstrating reliability and responsibility.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the initial contact person for members coming to group fitness classes with a positive and professional manner.
  • Serve as an enthusiastic, positive, high energy fitness instructor.
  • Provide exceptional customer service at the front desk.
  • Greet and direct all members with friendliness and courtesy, insuring their comfort within the facility.
  • Respond to member questions and direct them to appropriate areas of the Wellness Center.
  • Provide clear, accurate and polite information upon request.
  • Manage physician referrals and permission forms, ensuring they are properly documented and filed in each member’s record.
  • Handle administrative duties such as scheduling appointments, maintaining member records, processing payments, and responding to inquiries or concerns from members.
  • Enforce safety protocols, rules, and regulations within the fitness facility to create a secure and supportive environment for members and staff.
  • Perform initial fitness assessments for new members to evaluate their current fitness levels, establish baseline measurements, and identify any specific needs or limitations.
  • Design and implement fitness programs tailored to the needs and goals of members, which involves creating workout routines, selecting appropriate equipment and set-up, and ensuring safety standards are met.
  • Effectively leads scheduled fitness classes, starting and ending on time and incorporating appropriate warm-up, exercises, stretching, and cool down.
  • Demonstrates and instructs proper form and technique to ensure participant safety and effectiveness.
  • Plans, organizes, and leads engaging group fitness sessions, introducing fresh and creative programming ideas.
  • Prepares and maintains all necessary equipment, music, and instructional materials for each class.
  • Answer and direct calls politely, professionally and accurately.
  • Report to work as scheduled and accepts assignments responsibly.
  • Arrives and departs the work area on time.
  • Completes all work assignments within established time frames.
  • Adheres to Bethesda policies and procedures.
  • Maintains knowledge of and complies with all legislative laws regarding resident rights and vulnerability.
  • Reports all work related injuries promptly.
  • Keeps current with job responsibilities and expectations.
  • Participates actively in the annual performance evaluation process.
  • Engages in all required in-service programs at Bethesda.
  • Demonstrates professional conduct and maintains a pleasant, respectful, and friendly attitude towards staff, residents, and visitors.
