About The Position

This is a temporary position for a Medical Assistant. The role involves supporting healthcare providers by performing various administrative and clinical tasks. Key duties include patient screening, recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examinations, assisting providers, scheduling follow-up appointments, collecting specimens, phlebotomy, managing laboratory and radiology results, and maintaining patient records. The Medical Assistant will also be responsible for preparing instruments for sterilization, stocking examination rooms, ordering supplies, and ensuring the proper disposal of contaminated materials. Additionally, the role requires maintaining communication with health agencies for reporting purposes, completing various medical forms, tracking inventory, and ensuring patient confidentiality. The position also involves managing patient flow, setting up examination rooms, distributing educational materials, assisting with prescription refills, and rescheduling patients as needed. Effective communication and interpersonal skills are essential for maintaining relationships with staff and patients.

Requirements

  • Minimum formal education of High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 1 year job-related experience.
  • Trained in the area of Medical Assisting with certification from a Vocational/Technical or career program.
  • Medical Assistant Certification.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English.

  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Screen all patients for medical histories, recording vital signs, and performing EKGs.
  • Record X-Ray and Sonogram results in patient medical record charts.
  • Prepare patients for examination and assist providers during examinations.
  • Schedule patients for follow-up appointments.
  • Collect and prepare laboratory specimens and perform phlebotomy.
  • Ensure proper disposal of contaminated supplies and prepare instruments for sterilization.
  • Stock examination rooms and order supplies as necessary.
  • Maintain communication with health agencies for immunization reporting, communicable diseases, etc.
  • Assist in the examination and treatment of patients.
  • Operate equipment and perform EKGs.
  • Prepare patient medical records (chart) and/or EMR with appropriate intake sheets.
  • Gather information, complaints, take vital signs, and perform various tests as ordered.
  • Log laboratory and radiology results into patient medical records and/or EMR.
  • Perform directives as requested by physicians.
  • Complete various forms for Medical, Physical, Disability, and Schools.
  • Track inventory for supplies.
  • Interview patients.
  • Ensure charts are available with relevant lab work and test reports for the provider.
  • Assist with maintaining patient flow to and from exam rooms and treatment areas.
  • Assist in escorting patients and specimens throughout the facility.
  • Set up examination rooms for various primary and specialty care physicians.
  • Distribute appropriate educational material to patients as directed.
  • Assist in the authorization of prescription refills as directed by the physician.
  • Recall or reschedule patients as instructed.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff.
  • Secure and ensure confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Communicate effectively and maintain patient records, files, reports, and other correspondence.
  • Perform intake of patient medical history prior to provider examination, complete time out form, point of care testing including nasal and throat swab, CIR updating, and STD reporting.
  • Track refrigerator/freezer temperatures and complete appropriate forms.
  • Move equipment when or where necessary.
  • Perform other duties as required.
