About The Position

The Wellfield Drilling Tech prepares casing for drilling rigs and operates cementing and gravel-pack equipment. The role includes cementing cased holes, plugging and abandoning drill holes and wells, top plugging plugged holes and wells, assembling and installing well screens and accessories, and installing fencing around drill pits. Crew members also perform preventative maintenance on equipment and maintain inventory records. The work requires following established operating procedures and safe work practices, working outdoors in varied weather, and handling heavy materials and equipment.

Requirements

• Valid driver’s license.
• Knowledge of calculating cement mixtures for drilled and cased holes.
• Knowledge of operating pumps and valves.
• Ability to work well and communicate with others.
• Ability to understand and follow supervisors’ instructions.
• Ability to lift at least 50 pounds and move 50-pound objects more than 20 feet.
• Ability to read and write English to perform essential job functions.
• Ability to work in varied weather conditions and remain outdoors in all weather.
• Possess hearing and eyesight corrected to a normal able-bodied level.
• Ability to walk, stand, bend, and stoop as required by the job.
• Ability to climb stairs while carrying a 50-pound load.
• Ability to make fine, highly controlled muscular movements to adjust control mechanisms.
• Pass a pulmonary exam to wear a respirator as required when working around cement dust.

Responsibilities

• Operate cementing and/or gravel-packing equipment to cement open holes and/or gravel-pack cased holes as required.
• Operate light vehicles, water trucks, and forklifts to move equipment and handle materials.
• Transport casing and casing accessories to rigs and glue casing together when necessary.
• Transport screens to rigs and assemble screens and screen accessories for well completion work.
• Keep and record inventory.
• Follow all Standard Operating Procedures, Temporary Operating Procedures, instructions, and safe work practices while performing duties.
• Perform preventative maintenance on equipment as required.
• Prepare casing for drilling rigs; plug and abandon drill holes and wells; top plug plugged holes and wells; and install fencing around drill pits.
